Buster and the Banshee

Buster and the Banshee Our travels to Walt Disney World with our disabled daughter Welcome to Buster and the Banshee! We also have two children, one of whom is special needs.

Our mission is to provide high quality news about Walt Disney World and other associated (and non-associated) theme parks. While we do not reside in Central Florida (yet), we have visited WDW dozens of times and know it like the backs of our respective hands. Friends and family always come to use with advice on what to see and do in the World. Therefore, we also have a good amount of experience wi

th navigating the parks with someone who has unique differences. We also own a wonderful vacation home at Encore Reunion in Kissimmee which we use when we are in area. When we are not staying there, we offer it up for rent. Please check it out! It is 6 bedrooms… enough for your whole family and more. It also has its own private pool, a themed game room, a theater room, and two themed bedrooms for the young and young at heart. It gives you more space and amenities than you would get at a WDW resort for a fraction of the cost. While you have many choices for news and information about WDW, we hope that our unique personalities, as well as our specific focus on visiting with disabilities will guarantee that you will add us to your favorites. Here is some information about each of us:

BUSTER (he/him):

Buster is your typical middle aged nerd. Growing up, Buster was a huge fan everything that was un-cool then, but is cool now. Going to see the original Star Wars trilogy in the theaters was a transformative experience, and sparked his interest in all things Sci-Fi and Fantasy. He lived in the Science Fiction section of the local public library, devouring all of the classic works of that genre and then some. Buster was never a big Disney fan as a child, but came to it later in life after experiencing the magic of the WDW parks. Ironically, many of his favorite IP ended up being owned by Disney, so that certainly didn’t hurt matters. If Disney were somehow able to acquire Star Trek and Harry Potter, there would be no reason to leave the Disney bubble! In real life, Buster works in software development for a Fortune 500 company, so he has parleyed his nerdy proclivities into a quite successful career. BANSHEE (she/her):

Banshee is your atypical middle aged nerd. We say “atypical” because she grew up in a time when nerdy fandom was the domain of those of the male persuasion. However, she didn’t let her minority status stop her in her pursuit of happiness. She is a huge fan of the Star Wars and Marvel universes in particular. Buster and Banshee often debate the merits of Star Wars vs Star Trek, with Buster on the fence between the two and Banshee squarely on the side of “Wars”. She’ll also watch pretty much anything with Oscar Isaac or Jeremy Renner in it. Needless to say, she was a huge fan of both the Hawkeye and Moon Knight series. In real life, Banshee is a veterinarian and loves any and all things animal related. Going to Animal Kingdom with her is like having your very own personal naturalist tour guide. LITTLE BUSTER (he/him):

Little Buster is Buster and Banshee’s college aged (at the time of this writing) son. He has been going to WDW since he was 9, so he pretty much grew up with the parks in his life. Not unlike his parents, he knows the parks inside and out. His claim to fame is that he once rode Space Mountain nine times in a day, through a combination of rope drop and Fast Passes (the paper ones). However, his all time favorite ride is Journey Into Imagination with Figment. This was the first ride he every rode at WDW, so it holds a special place in his heart for that reason. In real life, he attends college where he plays lacrosse (NCAA D3) and hopes to become a veterinarian like his mom someday. LITTLE BANSHEE (she/her):

Little Banshee is Buster and Banshee’s special needs daughter. She has what is known as Phelan-McDermid Syndrome, which is a rare genetic condition that causes developmental delays, speech delays, autism, and low muscle tone. While she can walk on her own, she usually travels in a wheelchair while in the parks due to her low muscle tone and to prevent her from eloping (a common occurrence among those with autism). One of the reasons we love WDW so much is that it is one of the few places with rides that she can experience and enjoy along side of the family. At most parks, she is relegated to the kiddie rides because of her physical challenges. However, WDW has such a variety of inclusive rides and attractions that she allow her to ride along with the rest of the family. Plus, she loves interacting with the characters! Her favorite ride is Soarin’. The look on her face as she flies above the ground is simply priceless! In real life, Little Banshee is a princess.

Little Buster, you just graduated from college. What are you going to do next…..“I’m going to Disney World, of course!...

“I’m going to Disney World, of course!”

That’s the only correct answer 😆

Some days as a special needs family take more strength than people see. Certainly there are a lot of ups, but there are a lot of downs too! But at the end of the day, we have to keep the train moving as a family.

Because nothing can stop us now!! 🚂
