Some things most people do not know about my country "Trinidad and Tobago"
1. The father and creator of reggae music "Nearlin Tait" was born in the city of San Fernando, Trinidad. (Yes people a shocker, reggae did not originate from Jamaica, though Jamaica popularized it, mainly through the works of Jimmy Cliff and Bob Marley)
2. The only acoustic instrument to be invented in the 20th century was invented there by Winston "spree" Simon, the steel pan (popularly called the steel drums).
3. Calypso music was created there. The same calypso music that influenced jazz music which intern came full circle and influenced calypso music.
4. We are home to two miss universe title holders Penny Commissiong -1977, and Wendy Fitzwilliam-1998.
5. are home to the modern day carnival, being over 2 centuries old on our shores (another shocker it wasn't Brazil)
6. We're the smallest country ever to make a soccer World Cup, being a population of 1.3 million
7. We celebrate every religious holiday without prejudice ( Divali, Eid, or be it a Christian holiday)
8. Alfonso Robiero (Carlton), Tatiana Ali, Niki Minaj, that guy that sang and co wrote the Madagascar theme song lol (Mark Quashie), BillyOcean, and the butler from the original Annie- Geoffrey Holder, just to name a few. Are all sons and daughters of the soil.
