Western golfer Callen Szerdy is our Athlete of the Week after helping the Panthers win the Peru Sectional for 3rd straight year and later advancing from the Warsaw Regional to the State Finals.

According to the National Weather Service, parts of Howard County are now under a tornado warning until 10:30 p.m. Residents are asked to seek shelter by moving to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.

Sports Editor Bryan Gaskins gives a tip of the hat to Kokomo AD Nick Sale and his team for hosting 9 IHSAA tournament events this spring. Also, a tip of the hat to photography wiz Kelly Lafferty Ge**er, whose last day at the Tribune was Tuesday.

Over the years, I’ve covered IHSAA state tournament events in countless different gymnasiums, stadiums, fields and other venues. A lot of schools are good hosts, but Kokomo sets the standard.
