From LASD- CV Station:
Crescenta Valley Station deputies, along with Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel, responded to La Cañada High School regarding a hazardous materials incident on Friday, December 12, 2025. At approximately 12:01 PM, school officials contacted the Fire Department after observing two students mixing an unknown liquid substance inside plastic bottles.

Deputies responded to the campus and, out of an abundance of caution, evacuated the building containing the common area restrooms where the bottles of liquid were located. All remaining students were initially instructed to shelter in place and were later evacuated.
Crescenta Valley Station Deputies, in coordination with La Cañada High School personnel, facilitated the orderly release of students to their parents and legal guardians. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Arson and Explosives Detail responded to the scene, rendered the bottles safe, and took possession of the bottles for further investigation.

Two 16-year-old male juveniles were detained in connection with this incident.

Captain Ryan A. Vienna stated, “The safety of our schools, youth, and community are top priorities. Working collaboratively with school officials and the Fire Department, we are grateful for the safe resolution of this incident. Our investigators will continue their investigation, and we thank the students and community for their cooperation throughout this matter.”

This investigation is still ongoing, and anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station at 818-248-3464.

The Crescenta Valley Station would like to remind residents that mixing any chemicals in a plastic bottle can be extremely dangerous. Common cleaners like bleach and ammonia can react and release poisonous gases, leading to severe respiratory issues, chemical burns, or worse.

A water main break happened early this morning (Wednesday) in the 2400 block of Foothill Boulevard. CVWD reports that no customers have been affected, though some may experience low water pressure.
Crews are working to identify the leak; once it is located the water main between Sunset Avenue and Briggs Avenue will be shut down for repairs.
Work is expected to take 3-4 hours.
CVW will update as information becomes available.

UPDATE 10:27
From CVWD:
We are anticipating water shutdown for customers on the south side of Foothill between Sunset and Briggs, as well as customers on the 4400 block of Sunset Avenue and 2500 block of Mary Street. Estimated shutdown to begin in about an hour and to last 3-4 hours.

UPDATE 4:42
Some CVWD customers are without water due to a water main that "split down the middle," according to a CVWD representative.

"[The CVWD] crew discovered that the root issue was a 6” water main that split down the middle," said a CVWD representative. "The crew will need to continue through the evening but anticipates that water will be on for customers by the morning."

City of Glendale Announces Departure of Police Chief Manny Cid

The City of Glendale announced the departure of Police Chief Manny Cid, who has accepted a new role as the next police chief for the Anaheim Police Dept.

Chief Cid is credited with transforming the Glendale Police Dept. and strengthening public safety citywide. During his tenure, he championed advancements in technology, training and modern policing strategies, most notably through the development and implementation of the Real-Time Intelligence Center (RTIC). This initiative has reshaped Glendale’s approach to crime prevention, community safety and emergency response. Beyond operational achievements, Chief Cid elevated the professionalism, integrity and accountability of the department.

“Chief Cid’s impact on Glendale is lasting and profound,” said Mayor Ara Najarian. “He strengthened our systems, deepened our partnerships and reinforced a culture of excellence that will continue benefiting our community for years to come. We are proud of his accomplishments and grateful for the leadership he has brought to our city and wish him well in his future endeavors.”

“This opportunity came to Chief Cid because of his remarkable leadership skills and what he accomplished at Glendale PD,” said City Manager Roubik Golanian. “This was an extremely hard decision for him to make and ultimately it takes him closer to home, closer to family and provides an opportunity for continued career growth. We support his decision wholeheartedly, even as we know we are losing an extraordinary asset.”

As Glendale prepares for this transition, Deputy Chief Robert William will serve as interim police chief, alongside the capable Glendale Police Dept. command staff. Deputy Chief William brings extensive experience, deep organizational knowledge and a long-standing commitment to the Glendale community.

The City of Glendale will begin the process to identify the next permanent police chief.

Chief Cid was the third Glendale Police Dept. alumnus serving as a police chief in California, joining former Glendale Captain Rafael Quintero, now chief of police in Burbank, and former Glendale Police Lieutenant Daniel Suttles, who also serves as a police chief in the City of Atascadero. Their collective success reflects the strength of Glendale’s training, leadership development and professional culture.
