First, you heard them. Then you saw them.
A little wave from across the street. A parade of students coming around the corner. Kids from Spence and Longfellow pressed up against the curb. Parents lifting phones. Neighbors calling out names. Friends laughing. Families waving like they were waiting for someone they hadn’t seen in years.
And then the La Crosse Central High School homecoming parade came down the street. For a few minutes, an ordinary Friday afternoon turned into something else entirely.
The sidewalks became bleachers. The street became a stage. And hundreds of people became one very loud, very happy audience.
That’s the funny thing about a homecoming parade. The parade may belong to Central, but the moment belongs to everyone. And in that moment, La Crosse showed up.
