Adam Wright is carving out his own lane in the Driftless Area, that weird, untouched stretch where Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota blur together. His sound feels like the geography itself: jagged bluffs, endless highways, and small towns that look frozen in time.

Wright’s music lives in the same universe as Slint and Unwound, with flashes of Low’s slow-core minimalism and the restless Midwest experiments of Tortoise or Gastr del Sol. But there’s also a haunted, late-night energy here—think Jason Molina meets a lo-fi Midwest emo basement show.

It’s music that doesn’t just represent the Midwest; it warps it. Wright translates isolation, rural sprawl, and surreal memories into a sound that feels both familiar and uncanny, like driving down a two-lane road at 2 a.m., unsure if you’re heading home or into some dream sequence.

I wish I could invite all the artists as collaborators but IG has a 5 person cap. I just want to give all the artists a big shoutout. None of this wouldn’t be possible without you guys. The compilation is one of the labels strongest releases to date. Lots of footwork with some club nuances in between. 5 years is a long time. So here’s to another 5 years down the line. Issa Party 5 Year Compilation is out now on Bandcamp for free, link in bio. The compilation will be released on DSP’s in late September. Stay tuned for that. And this Friday, August 30th we’ll be celebrating the labels anniversary and the compilation release at starting at 9pm. $5 the entire night. See ya’ll there.

Get to know Heavee, a member of the legendary Teklife, and a native of the south side, Heavee has been a staple of the Chicago footwork music scene for the past 15 plus years. His productions have seen releases on Hyperdub, Moveltraxx, and the now defunct Ghettophiles. He’s collaborated with the likes of Zora Jones and Sinjin Hawke and been featured on Rinsefm numerous times. Get to know Devin Hudson, a native originally from Indianapolis, Devin has been involved in the Chicago music for more than a decade. He currently co runs .co with and works as an engineer for classick studios. His productions span multiple vocalists and artists alike including productions for Smino. Though it wasn’t intended, the majority of the artists on this comp skewed more towards footwork which goes to show how influential and impactful the genre is to Chicago and the culture at large.
