This looks like a nice spot to land. As the rivers freeze this juvenile Bald Eagle takes a spot on the ice with the others. Seeing the eagles sit on the ice is a common thing to see this time of year, especially where the available open water is.

Bald Eagle swooping around looking for that next meal. As you can see here this eagles nictitating membrane is cover his eyes to protect his most valuable asset. Did you also know Bald Eagles have vision that’s 8 times sharper of a humans? That doesn’t mean they can see 8 times farther, just 8 times the detail.

The king of the skies, American Bald Eagle, is making its way back to our area. While it’s still early for prime time it feels great to spend some time with these guys. As more water starts to freeze more of them huddle around those open ice areas and it’s quite spectacular to watch them gather up.

Look at this little nugget basking in the sun. Can’t wait to see more barred owlets in the spring.

The intense and fierce gaze of a Bald Eagle is not something I’d mess with. Being in the presence of Bald Eagles is always a pleasure but when you have the chance to lock eyes with them you feel it in your soul. It’s sometimes feels like making a connection with them and feeling the true power they possess.

Can’t wait to see these guys again. We’re getting close to that time of year. Seeing so many Great Gray Owls last year ...
