After 1,333 days in various medical facilities, 3-year-old Levi “Boog” Wallen finally came home to Jellico on Aug. 7.

The state of his lungs was Levi’s main issue, and while he is not a candidate for a lung transplant, he is expected to get better with time, medicine and rehabilitation.

It is unlikely that the hospital in Jellico will re-open in 2025, but Tim Reeves, who will serve as chief executive officer of Jellico Community Hospital, LLC, said that he is still optimistic about the hospital opening in general. Reeves puts the likelihood of the hospital opening at 75% to 80%.

In a long exclusive interview with the LaFollette Press, Reeves broke down what Phoenix Rural Health has done, what challenges they are facing and where they go from here.

We need a special volunteer to provide care and comfort to Chappell, a frightened 1-2 year old lab mix. She weighs around 36 pounds and has been in the shelter for over a week, staying at the back of her kennel and cowering. Due to her fear, she is eating very little. We are seeking either a foster or someone to sit with her in her kennel and offer treats. As human interaction is her greatest comfort, we encourage you to spend time with her. Our staff is currently overwhelmed, and your support would be invaluable. You can visit Chappelle during our normal business hours, Tuesday through Saturday, 12-5:30. 🐕
