Texas existed as an independent nation—the Republic of Texas—from 1836 to 1845 after winning independence from Mexico at the Battle of San Jacinto. During that time it had its own elected president (Sam Houston and later Mirabeau Lamar), its own army and navy, diplomatic recognition from major powers like the United States, Britain, and France, and even issued its own currency and postage stamps.

When Texas joined the United States in 1845, it did so under unique terms that still set it apart today. It retained control of its public lands (unlike most states), which later made it extremely wealthy through oil and mineral rights, and it reserved the right to divide itself into as many as five states if it ever chose—something no other state is allowed to do.

The UIL has released his re-classification/realignment enrollment numbers for the next biennium starting in the 26/27 school year. The schools now know what classification they will be in. The district realignments will be released around February 1st

We have CANCELLED tonight's regularly scheduled LGISD School Board Meeting due to unforeseen circumstances resulting in there not being a quorum present.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION - We will continue with the Leopard Academy Graduation as planned. The graduation will begin at 6 pm in the LGISD School Board Meeting Room.

The December LGISD School Board Meeting will be rescheduled for a date to be determined.
