We are deeply saddened to learn that Ukrainian writer Victoria Amelina has died from injuries sustained in Russia's June 27th shelling of Kramatorsk. May her words live on and inspire.

The deadline to submit is June 16th. This issue's theme is LAYERS:

Layers of words, phrases, images, sounds. Layers of thoughts, emotions, sensations, reactions. Sometimes apparent, sometimes obscured. They give shape, depth, and added meaning to life and the world around us. Peel them back or keep them hidden. Discover the secrets behind their formation.

Layers in literature, history, research, and love. Layers in physicality, spirituality, earth, air, and ocean. They are trace, absence, presence. A palimpsest. A ventifact.

Send us your textual, visual, and experimental translations—layered in their content, intent, method, or form.

Alchemy welcomes traditional and non-traditional translations as well as experimental work that investigates or challenges the very act of translation. You may submit translated poems, short fiction, non-fiction, dramatic works/dialogues, letters, reviews, or cross-genre/unclassifiable work. ISSUE 21 | AUTONOMY includes poetry and prose pieces translated from Russian, Persian, Japanese, Chinese, Tagalog, German, and French, plus an original poem/ "anthropocene" translation by Marc Petrie. The translators featured are: Vyxz Vasquez, Benjamin Landauer, Alex Buckman, Neon Mashurov, McCalee Cain, and Maziar Karim.

This issue also includes original artwork by Dauda Yusuf, John Woodcock, Richard Vyse, Mariaceleste Arena, Martyna Benedyka, and Leslie Espino.
