On April 2, UC San Diego students organized a walkout to protest the Trump administration and the arrest of Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil. Khalil, a former Columbia student and green card holder, was arrested by ICE in March 2025 for allegedly supporting Hamas.

Speakers at the rally condemned the arrest, with one stating, “This is not just about Mahmoud—it’s about the targeting of activists and immigrants.” The protest, led by Students for Justice in Palestine, also highlighted calls for divestment from Israel and broader immigrant rights.

“On November 11, 2024, AS met in regards to new data released by the UCSD Basic Needs Hub which found that UCSD is first in housing insecurity and second in food insecurity in the entire University of California system. The data found that between the 2021-2022 academic year and the 2023-2024 academic year student use of the Basic Needs Hub increased by 180% due to increased awareness of the resources it provides.”

On November 20, 2024, at 12:00 A.M., the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees(AFSCME) Local 3299, a union which represents over 37,000 UC service workers, patient care technical workers, and skilled craft workers, began an Unfair Labor Practices(ULP) strike across all UC campuses. The strike is set to end November 21, at 11:59 P.M.

United Auto Workers (UAW) 4811 members went on strike Monday, June 3 at UC San Diego over the University of California’s response to pro-Palestine demonstrations.

On May 6, 2024, the UC San Diego administration called forth riot police to tear down what would have been the 6th day of the Gaza Solidarity Encampment.

The Triton’s staff documented events surrounding the aftermath of the administration’s, starting from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m. that day.
