Phun Phacks;
WKRP in Cincinnati aired it's final episode 43 years ago today on April 21, 1982. The show ran for four seasons from September 18, 1978 - April 21, 1982.

Little-Known Facts About WKRP in Cincinnati:

1. The station's call letters were almost "WKRP in Cleveland."
Creator Hugh Wilson originally considered setting the show in Cleveland, but later changed it to Cincinnati for its underdog charm and for the way the city's name rolled off the tongue with "WKRP."

2. It was inspired by real-life radio station experiences.
Wilson based much of the show on his time at WQXI in Atlanta, a Top 40 station where he observed the oddball personalities and chaotic energy of a radio station firsthand.

3. The “turkey drop” episode is based on a true story.
The iconic “Turkeys Away” episode — where live turkeys are dropped from a helicopter — was inspired by a real radio promotion gone wrong, although the details were exaggerated for comedic effect.

4. The music licensing almost buried the show.
WKRP featured real rock and pop songs throughout its run, which made syndication complicated and expensive due to music licensing fees. For years, episodes aired with replacement music until Shout! Factory released a near-complete DVD set with most of the original songs intact.

5. Howard Hesseman wasn’t the first choice to play Dr. Johnny Fever.
The role nearly went to another actor, but Hesseman, a former radio DJ himself, brought an authenticity and improvisational flair that sealed the deal.

6. Loni Anderson’s role was a breakthrough — but it was written against type.
Jennifer Marlowe was originally envisioned as a ditzy blonde, but Loni Anderson convinced producers to portray her as sharp and competent — a change that made the character iconic.

7. The show's studio audience didn’t laugh at the first pilot.
Producers had to retool the show after the original pilot flopped with test audiences. The version that aired included new scenes and a stronger focus on the ensemble dynamic.

8. The “soundproof booth” gag was based on real radio station designs.
Herb Tarlek often walks into the “soundproof booth” only to be heard clearly from the outside. This gag came from real radio stations where control rooms were supposed to be soundproof, but often weren’t.

9. Cincinnati embraced the show — eventually.
Although some locals were skeptical at first, the city came to love WKRP. In fact, a real-life station (WKRQ) even started marketing itself with slogans referencing the show.

10. The series finale aired out of order.
The final episode produced was "Up and Down the Dial," which served as a proper send-off. But due to scheduling quirks, other episodes aired afterward, making the finale confusing for some fans.

**IMPORTANT Message from KFUY Global Radio(located off Hwy 10 in La Junta, Colorado)*
In light of the recent White House commanding the Voice of America (V.O.A.) & Radio Free Europe SHUTDOWN, I plan on reaching out to a few of their current UN-biased Reporters to see if they might be interested in using the KFUY International (Global) Radio Feed for Re-broadcasting some of their material-- My Server is very small but, ANYTHING is possible/ With any Cooperation from the other International Stations,IF they choose to use the KFUY(International)Feed -- *I built the Server from the Ground-Up using a Canadian Toshiba computer, without a hitch(Broadcasting Internationally for over 9 years).. Therefore/The KFUY programming format may change to 50% Music and 50% of UN-biased Reporting as V.O.A. has always provided since 1941
