People think social media marketing is easy because, from the outside, it looks like you’re just posting pictures, making reels and writing captions.
And they think there’s a cookie-cutter formula: post this many times, post at this time, make this many reels, follow the analytics.
But marketing doesn’t work like that.
The overall goal is similar, get attention, build the brand, reach the right people and ultimately bring in business. But HOW you do that changes with every business.
Even two restaurants shouldn’t necessarily have the same strategy.
A restaurant and bar that also has live music can’t be marketed solely as an event venue. If all you promote is the entertainment, people forget there’s a restaurant and bar there. But if you only promote the food and drinks, you’re ignoring a huge part of what makes that business different.
You have to balance it all.
You have to consider the business’s voice and branding, its specific audience, analytics, the best posting times for THAT audience, location, locals vs. tourists, seasonality, events, and what actually gets people through the door.
Now compare that to an online business. Completely different strategy. You’re not trying to reach people within driving distance. Your customer could be anywhere.
That’s why knowing how to make a post isn’t the same as knowing how to market a business.
Analytics matter. Content matters. Consistency matters. Branding matters. But none of them exist in a vacuum.
Good marketing is understanding which pieces matter for THIS business, THIS audience, THIS market and THIS goal, and knowing how to make all those moving parts work together.
There is no universal template. And sometimes the people who think marketing is the simplest are the ones focusing on all the wrong parts.
