💙 In Loving Memory of Rebecca Collins 💙

Our community mourns the loss of Rebecca Collins, a beloved voice and advocate for local art, writing, and storytelling. Rebecca began her journalism journey at The Bayshore Sun before founding The Bay Area Observer, where she devoted her life to keeping community news alive and meaningful.

For more than 15 years, Rebecca was a vibrant part of the La Porte and Seabrook area, raising funds through art, writing heartfelt community stories, supporting local artists, and helping publish books that gave new voices a platform. She championed indie authors, local talent, and creative expression in all its forms.

Rebecca was also involved in the Gulf Coast Film Festival and deeply connected to the art community, where her warmth and encouragement left a lasting mark on all who knew her.

Her spirit lives on through every story she told, every artist she supported, and every life she touched.

🕊 “To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.” — Thomas Campbell

Big News, Bay Area! 🚨

Starting November 1st, we’re partnering with a Houston-based newspaper to keep local news alive and thriving, and to grow even bigger! 📰✨

Printing independently has been costly, but instead of stopping completely, we found a blessing in disguise. An existing paper we’ve worked with before reached out, and we’re excited to share that we will be a part of their team!

Here’s what this means for YOU 👇
More exposure, more reach!
✅ I’ll continue writing the content, doing stories and interviews + producing the Bay Area Observer (digital copy only) while we print and distribute Lone Star TX Newspaper.

🌟 The exciting part? Lone Star TX already prints and distributes across 200+ locations in Houston & Port Neches, including airports, H-E-B, Buc-ee’s, Kroger, and more. And now, it will also include our Bay Area route!

This partnership means more exposure, more opportunities, and a stronger voice for our community!

Thank you for being part of this journey. The best is yet to come!

The Story of Mums & Homecoming ✨🌼
Drop a picture of yours in the comments!

Mums aren’t just fall’s favorite flower, they have a history that stretches back over 2,500 years! Originating in China, they symbolized life and healing before spreading to Japan, where they became a royal emblem. By the 1700s, mums made their way to Europe and the U.S., eventually becoming a staple of autumn gardens. 🍂🌸

But here in Texas, mums took on a whole new meaning… 🏈💛

👉 The tradition started in the 1930s, when young men gave their homecoming dates a chrysanthemum corsage as a sweet token of affection and school spirit. Back then, it was a real flower with just a few ribbons attached.

Over the decades, that simple corsage grew, literally! Today, mums have transformed into giant displays of ribbons, charms, bells, and even lights, worn proudly at football games and dances. They’re more than flowers, they’re a symbol of tradition, friendship, and community spirit. 🎀✨

From ancient gardens to Friday night lights, mums have bloomed into something truly unforgettable! 🌼🏆
