Am I the only person who has to outsmart herself just to get the housework done?

My brain hears ā€œshower, makeup and real clothesā€ and thinks, Great, let’s go out! šŸƒā€ā™€ļøSo I devised this self-imposed ā€œhouse arrestā€ just so I actually can get things done.

It’s not pretty… as you can plainly see… but it works!

Today I finally tackled the dreaded floors and earned my shower.

And to be totally transparent as someone recovering from surgery- it took most of the day between breaks. And that’s okay- it’s done! āœ…

What strange little trick helps you stop procrastinating?

Today I made a run to storage with some of the things we’ve used during surgery recovery, both mine and Rich’s.

And somewhere in the middle of it, I realized I’ve spent almost two years in survival mode since my accident.

For so long, I was just trying to get through each day. Little by little, the clutter and disorganization crept in because I didn’t have the ability or energy to deal with it. And somewhere along the way, my home stopped feeling as peaceful as I’d like it to feel.

I’ve been reading about how clutter and unfinished projects create ā€œopen loopsā€ in our minds- just by seeing it adds to that background feeling of stress. I can feel it!

Honestly, this felt like a bigger project than I was ready to tackle. But I did it, I made a big dent, and that felt really good.

There’s still a lot more of my space to reclaim and organize, but today was a good start.

A surprising thing happened yesterday. Usually when Rich’s home, the tv is on but he fell asleep. So I muted it and put on a playlist of some of my old favorite songs- I think they call it yacht rock now. šŸ›„ļø šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

I was quietly reading but then I got up to walk to the kitchen, and suddenly realized… I was dancing. šŸ’ƒ

I actually stopped and thought, Wait…I can dance?

I haven’t even tried since my surgery. It caught me off guard in the best way. It felt so good to move to music that had nothing to do with exercising.

Such a small thing, but it made me ridiculously happy.

I’ll put the link to the song below because it’s such a good one. See if you dance too.

What song can you never sit still through?

One thing that’s working for me is not cutting out sweets completely, but finding simple ways to make them with better ingredients.

This sweet potato cookie from has become my go-to when I feel like having a cookie. It’s warm, chocolatey, surprisingly filling, and better all around than the cookies I would normally reach for. It satisfies the craving perfectly.

Save this for when you need a quick cookie fix.

Would you try it?

I was reorganizing my kitchen today and went looking for a basket with a lid to store my potatoes. I found one tucked away in the bedroom, and inside were these crystal glass goblets.

They were given to us as a wedding present by a dear client couple- the ones I can honestly say kicked off my career.

For almost 35 years, I’ve kept them ā€œsafely wrapped awayā€, which really means I’ve been saving them for something special.

But what exactly have I been saving them for?

So today I washed them and made room for them where I can easily reach them. I’m going to use them, enjoy them, and yes, even risk them.

Because life is too short to keep the beautiful things tucked away waiting for someday.

Do you have something special you’ve been saving for someday?

The temperature finally dipped below 100° today in the desert, and my ankle incisions are almost completely healed.🄳

Which means I can finally see pool time in my near future, and I am ridiculously excited about it. šŸ©±šŸ¤—

What are you looking forward to right now?

Recently someone asked me, ā€œHow do you get started when your life has become really small?ā€

And I’m definitely not saying I have all the answers to this one.

But for me, I keep coming back to joy.

I think when we find those tiny moments that spark even a little bit of joy, it starts to get the ball rolling for so much more.

When I couldn’t do much of anything, flowers were one of the easiest ways to lift my spirits.

And it didn’t even have to be buying them.

Sometimes it was noticing them.
Paying attention to them.
Letting myself enjoy their beauty.

Bringing them into my home was just a bonus.

It may not seem like much, but sometimes one little thing is enough to start moving you in the right direction when everything else feels overwhelming.

For me, it was flowers.

But I’d really love to know — what’s one tiny thing that brings a little joy into your life?

One thing I’ve learned about eating well at home is that I need to make meals I genuinely look forward to, not meals I feel like I’m supposed to eat.

One of our favorite dinners out is at the local Japanese restaurant, so I decided to create our own DIY plant-based sushi bowl bar at home. šŸ£

I set out rice, greens, crispy tofu, edamame, fresh cucumber salad, carrots, mango, roasted sweet potato, a pineapple sesame sauce, and all our favorite fixings so we could each build our bowl exactly the way we wanted it.

Honestly, this may be even better than going out. It was colorful, satisfying, and fun to put together. I have a feeling DIY sushi night may become a weekly thing around here.

What would be a must-have on your sushi bowl?

What can change in 100 days? That’s what I want to find out.

After a setback, life can quietly get smaller. You stop making plans because you don’t know how you’ll feel. You miss the freedom of simply deciding to go somewhere and going.

Maybe you recognize that feeling, even if your circumstances are different.

Last birthday, I promised myself I would work toward a life that felt like mine again. Now I have 100 days left before the next one.

I’ve made progress. I got through the surgery I fought for, my outlook is brighter, and my creativity is returning.

Now I’m working on walking comfortably again, rebuilding my strength, and finding a way of eating that I genuinely enjoy and can sustain. I want more joy in my days, too, not something I have to postpone until I’m ā€œbetter.ā€

I don’t expect to resolve everything in 100 days. But I want to see what can change.

And if you’re quietly trying to rebuild your life too, I want you to know you’re not the only one.

Happy Monday from my newly illuminated knitting corner. šŸ’”āœØ

I’ve wanted a light in this corner of the sectional for.ev.er! Years, in fact. Apparently, all it took was becoming a knitter to finally make it happen. I guess this is who I am now. šŸ˜€šŸ§¶

I’ve traded doom scrolling for knitting, and now I can keep my hands busy during TV time. What took me so long? šŸ¤”

After finishing my first poncho, I’m already on to project number two.

Can you sit still and just watch TV, or do you need to be doing something too? What keeps your hands busy?
