Self-described “community culture specialist” Jones of Omaha brings high energy and positivity as a facilitator, networker and emcee. He was already an athletic star and champion when a life-threatening heart ailment required open heart surgery.

He battled back to become a beloved hometown hero only to face new heart issues that eventually forced him to give up his hoop dreams. He pays forward the saving grace, social capital and goodwill he accrued during those trying times to engage others in community.

The work and ethos of Omaha community organizer Leo Louis II featured in new documentary

In the acclaimed new feature-length documentary My Omaha progressive white filmmaker Nick Beaulieu sets out to understand his historically segregated hometown. His search coincides with Black Lives Matter, Trump America and the social-political divide. In trying to reconcile the two Omahas and to heal a frayed relationship with his conservative father he meets African American community organizer Leo Louis II, who educates him on what it means to be Black and to find common ground in this fraught time.

Bri Parker aka Brittany Parker expresses herself in many ways: as entrepreneur, personal trainer, human services professional, prizefighter, model, creative, influencer, trauma survivor and single mom. In filling each of these roles she leads with her heart and strives to inspire others.

Now that some of her activities are reconnecting her with North 24th Street, she’s glad to be a change agent there.

After working as a Women’s Center for Advancement case manager and housing director she became the first general manager at Salvation Army North Corps (The SAL) in January.

She oversees day-to-day operations at the remodeled site whose new address is 24th and Manderson.

Every Men of Honor Gala tells a story — a story of mentorship in motion, of youth rising with confidence, and of a community united in purpose.

Tomorrow night, we gather once again to celebrate the leaders who inspire, the mentors who uplift, and the youth who represent our future.

We’ll see you at the Gala.

Faith-filled journeys brought Lt. Johnny Miller and Lt. Marsha Williams-Miller together as a couple, then to the Salvation Army in Chicago, where they became officers, and more recently to lead its The SAL Omaha North Corps Community Center (Salvation Army) worship and service center in Omaha.

Each Miller traversed a distinct path before joining the Army and embarking on their shared life of ministry and service. Omaha is their first assignment since graduating from the Salvation Army officer training college in Chicago.

These soulmates now apply their experience and expertise to making good trouble in North Omaha.

On Oct. 15, donors of The Salvation Army Omaha and community members were given their first look at a major nonprofit project that has been in production for several years.

The North Corps has been a beloved part of North Omaha since the 1930s, having been a source of food, security and entertainment for many in this area of town who have used “The Sal.” In 2024, construction began to renovate this stalwart of the city.
