The LSC school board tonight named Katie Reckard, an assistant superintendent in the district, as the next superintendent of Lafayette School Corp., starting July 1, 2027.

She’ll replace Superintendent Les Huddle, who announced his retirement plans over the summer.

School board voted 5-0, with one abstention (and one absent), after an in-house search.

In his first interview since closing out Purdue’s last academic year as the target of a vote of no confidence from the faculty-led University Senate, Purdue Provost Patrick Wolfe said there are things he could have done better as allegations of his being distant and disconnected from day-to-day realities on campus gained traction during the spring 2026 semester.

Flipped again: Indiana Supreme Court took just a few hours after oral arguments to rule ballots tossed out in in the Indiana Senate District 23 GOP primary should have been counted by the Indiana Recount Commission.

Incumbent Spencer Deery regains 6 votes ... and a 3-vote victory over challenger Paula Copenhaver.

Teachers are raising questions about how open the Lafayette school board has been about the search for a new LSC superintendent.

Rebuffed, they say, in requests for more of a say in how interviews and vetting are being done, teachers with the Lafayette Education Association ask whether the internal search was a done deal from the start.

SK hynix officials said this week that they see the $4B high-bandwidth memory facility going up in West Lafayette to be just the start of a semiconductor/AI ecosystem in Indiana.

No one was giving details about discussions into what might be next around West Lafayette/Purdue, though interim Purdue President Mitch Daniels said this after groundbreaking ceremonies Thursday: “I think our goal is to make life very difficult for Mayor (Erin) Easter to help provide housing and services and so forth to what’s surely going to be a fast-growing community.”
