Funny enough, I’m using “Angel of the Morning” by Juice Newton for a sunset video. 😂
But if you know me, you know I’ll choose a Louisiana sunset over a sunrise almost every single time.
And I’ve actually wondered why that is.
I think maybe I finally figured it out.
A sunrise feels like anticipation.
A sunset feels like perspective.
By the time the sun starts going down, the day has already happened.
Whatever was going to go right went right. Whatever went wrong already went wrong. The things you got done are done, and the things you didn’t will still be there tomorrow.
And none of it changes what the sky is about to do.
The sun still drops behind those cypress trees.
The birds still make their way back to roost.
The alligators start slipping off their logs and disappearing beneath the water.
The light still dances across the bayou until there’s barely any left.
And sitting—or in my case, usually floating 😂—in the middle of all of it has taught me something.
Life doesn’t have to go exactly the way you planned for you to look around and realize it’s still pretty darn good.
Maybe that’s what I love so much about the end of the day.
For a little while, I’m not thinking about what I need to do next or what I didn’t get done.
I’m just there.
Watching the sky change. Listening to the bayou settle. Feeling the air cool off and realizing, right there in the middle of an ordinary evening, this is one of those moments I’m going to be glad I didn’t miss.
Maybe I don’t chase sunsets because of the sunset at all.
Maybe I chase the feeling I have when I’m sitting underneath one.
And I have a feeling some of you know exactly what I mean. 💛⚜️
Speaking of the music…
I hear from so many of you about how much you love the songs I use, and y’all are always asking me to use certain ones.
And YES…I absolutely take requests! 😂
But it has to hit me. I have to hear a song and immediately feel a story, a Louisiana scene or a moment that belongs with it.
So keep those requests coming. I LOVE hearing the songs you love…and finding just the right Louisiana moment to put with them.
Now I want to know…
SUNRISE or SUNSET? 🌅
