Sometimes you're lucky enough to have a well appointed professional studio, or better yet a secluded hideaway with cool vintage analog gear like Red Boiling Sound, but most of the time you've just "got what you got" when inspiration strikes. So you make due, and get to work anyway.

"Down the Road" is one of the songs that I worked up with Patrick Collins for our Wilson Collins project. I was feeling antsy, during a lull ... and just had to record the new material. So, summer heat and house full of pets be damned, I employed the old hook or crook method and just went for it.

This video documents the making of said sonic sausage, from recording drums in Pat's home office, to tracking in my living room with the air conditioner and fans on, and dogs and cats doing what dogs and cats do. I used every digital cheat at my disposal, opting to use amp plugins and direct ins often, and made full use of the Kaotica Eyeball whenever a live mic was necessary. Here's hoping the results are as down and dirty as the recording methods! See and hear for yourself, and let me know what you think!!

Got busy working on the analog record at Red Boiling Sound, and neglected to finish these videos I shot with Patrick Collins at Painted Pig Pizza, before they opened. I have a bunch, and it's been a kick to get back to them and see these performances. This is basically what you'll see at a Wilson Collins gig, just us playing live.

This is one of our newer original songs "Somebody" which tells a tale of serial monogamy gone awry. (any resemblance to songwriters either living or dead is purely coincidental)

Just realized I had neglected to post the full wide version of this video here:

This is the second video shot on that fortunate day! Come on In is a song I've been carrying around for a few years now, written in a moment when I was truly smitten. (interesting fact: both songs from the session are connected. One chronicles that "this is the one" feeling, and the other ... the cold slap of reality when you learn that it ain't)

Back in April, I lucked into an opportunity to serve as the guest artist for Tape Camp at Welcome to 1979. Tape camp is an intimate two day seminar on analog recording lead by studio founder and head of Mara Machines, Chris Mara. Basically, my job was to bring in two songs and a band that could lay them down in one or two takes (only took one)... all the while functioning like the n**e model in an art class, as the students get hands on with the recording process. I've done a couple of similar sessions for my by dear friend and storied producer/engineer, Lenise Bent, and she was kind enough to connect me to Chris (being the great friend that she is). I sent over some samples of my music, and I was fortunate enough to make the cut.

So, I invited my band mates, Patrick Collins (Drums: Wilson/Collins, Bugtussle Blues) and Kurt Carrick (Bass: Bugtussle Blues), along with my friend and well known local guitarist, Jasco Duende, to join me on a field trip to the vintage analog recording wonderland that is Welcome to 1979 ... (Good friends)

But wait ... there's more!! It turns out that Patrick's son, Sean Collins happens to be a professional film maker, and he had been looking for an opportunity to capture his dad's musical endeavors on film. So, it just worked out that the session provided the perfect backdrop. How's that for good fortune?!

Good friends and good fortune!

In March of 2025 Wilson Collins set up some recording gear and a camera at local Clay County hot spot, the Painted Pig! This is our rendition of County Line, a song originally penned for the Primal Kings album. This is basically just two guys, playing live. Enjoy!!

How did I end up with such a beautifully shot video of a session in one of the most sought after studios in Nashville? Good fortune and good friends, that's how!
