Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles Warns Residents of Recurring Text Message Scam

Baton Rouge – Louisiana State Police and the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) are alerting residents about another text message scam that aims to steal personal information and charge unnecessary fees.

In the latest iteration of the scam, many Louisiana residents have received text messages claiming the recipient has an “outstanding traffic ticket” and must pay a fee or face repercussions. These messages are fraudulent; do not click links, respond, or send payment. The OMV advises all recipients to ignore and delete these messages immediately.

The Louisiana OMV offers the following tips to help residents avoid scams:

· DO NOT click on links in an unsolicited message from an unverified source

· DO NOT respond or send your personal information via text

· Delete all suspicious texts and emails, and report them to reportfraud.ftc.gov

· Exercise caution with all communications you receive from anonymous sources

· Confirm the message was generated from a legitimate source

· Keep an eye out for signs of scams (rewards, vague URLs, incorrect grammar)

The Louisiana OMV does not send text messages or emails threatening prosecution for traffic or fee violations. To process legitimate online services safely and securely, Louisiana residents can visit the official OMV website at www.expresslane.org.

Hello...Is it Scams You're Looking For?
In this week’s scam, you receive a text message from an unknown phone number that reads “Hello.” The message seems harmless, and you might think it’s a genuine text meant for someone else. Because the message appears friendly, you may be tempted to respond.
However, this message is actually a text-based phishing scam called a smishing attack. Scammers send thousands of these messages to random phone numbers, hoping to receive a reply. If you reply to the text, the scammer confirms that your phone number is active and that they have contacted a real person. They will continue texting you to try to gain your trust so that they can steal your data or financial information. What you thought was an innocent text from a wrong number is a scam!

Follow these tips to avoid falling victim to a smishing scam:

If you think you have received a smishing message, block the number and report the text as junk or spam on your smartphone.
You should never share personal or financial information in text messages, especially if you do not recognize the number!
If you receive a text message from an unknown number, simply don’t answer. It’s not rude to protect yourself!

I have watched countless hours of The Unashamed podcast w Phil, Al and Jase Robertson - and have missed Phil since he fell sick and has been unable to be on the show. The definition of disbelief for me - is when a man who has lived the life of a giant in God's kingdom, goes home to be with the Lord. Deepest condolences to his family, church and community for his loss. I'm sure for the family, there will be something missing in those duck blinds for the rest of their lives. Ms. Kaye - his bride - is also in failing health. This comes as the family has recently started a follow-up on the Duck Dynasty show - with the next generation. Duck Dynasty; A silly little reality show that shined light on a simple man that God used in a very big way. Glory - glory - to finishing the race strong Mr. Phil. Sorry that I never got to meet you in person.

My dad has gone to be with the Lord today! He will be missed but we know he is in good hands, and our family is good because God is very good! We will see him again!

Sooo sad.... gone too soon....

Shetler-Corley Ford is deeply saddened by the loss of Sommer Simon.
Our hearts go out to Maci Simon, and the entire Simon family during this incredibly difficult time.
Sommer will be greatly missed by her Shetler-Corley family, and our thoughts and prayers are with Maci, her family, and friends as they navigate this heartbreaking loss. 💔

Sharing - because I have never heard anyone express personal experience of how being homeless is de-humanizing in this way. And she is right. We heard a lot about her (Jewel) being homeless - but only now nearly 3 decades later - do I learn that it was because she was trying to avoid something horrible - by her boss, that this happened.
