ModernTone is proud to welcome Dedrick Weathersby to the MTS team. Dedrick is a powerhouse vocalist, songwriter, and performer with deep roots in musical theater and a gift for helping students unlock their creative voice.
He will be teaching Tuesday and Thursday evenings starting next week! Come by after work sometime for a lesson with this brilliant human.

An Emmy Award-winning artist and Broadway World/NAACP Award recipient, Dedrick brings over two decades of professional experience on stage and in the studio. His background includes starring roles in national musical theater tours, leading original productions like Remembering James – The Life and Music of James Brown and Tutti Frutti – The Life and Music of Little Richard, and producing his own studio albums and books.
Dedrick specializes in voice and songwriting instruction, guiding students to build vocal technique, emotional connection, and storytelling ability. Whether you’re working on pop, soul, musical theater, or original material, he’s passionate about helping each student find their own sound and tell their own story.
Beyond teaching, Dedrick is an accomplished playwright and producer, the founder of Super Bad Theater Company, and the author of six books, including How I See Myself, an inspirational collection for young creatives.
He holds dual degrees in Musical Theatre and Business Management, and has mentored hundreds of performers—on stage, on tour, and in the classroom. Dedrick believes music is both craft and calling, and his teaching blends real-world insight with heart, humor, and encouragement.
His motto? “You can never lose betting on yourself.” Students leave his lessons feeling empowered, inspired, and ready to take the stage.
