Northstar

Community isn’t a buzzword—it’s where thoughtful design meets everyday living. This story shows how a modern development can still feel rooted, real, and quietly Boulder. Through shared spaces, sunlight-filled home, and design that encourages togetherness instead of isolation, Northstar isn’t flashy. It’s grounded.

It’s a vision for living that’s less about “luxury” and more about “life.” Homes that breathe, gathering areas that invite connection, and a rhythm that respects solitude and social energy in equal measure. Northstar doesn’t sell a lifestyle—it helps create one.

The Altitude Edit

Clothing with altitude isn’t just about staying warm—it’s about style with function. This story brings together looks built for mountain air, cold commutes and casual nights out. It’s about layering wool with texture, choosing gear that moves with you, and making clothes work both on trails and downtown.

These aren’t runway outfits—they’re real. Real comfort. Real movement. Real life in a place where seasons change fast, temperatures drop sudden, and what you wear says as much about where you’re going as how you live.

Curiosity Turned Passion Project
Some people collect stories in notebooks—Kelly and Tim Duda collected summits. Their journey through Colorado’s 14ers started almost on a dare: one mountain in Estes, one uncertain ascent, one moment that could have ended at the trail junction. Instead, Longs Peak turned into a spark that changed everything. The couple kept climbing, kept learning how to read weather, how to stay patient at altitude, how to trust each other when a ridge feels endless. Over decades, they stitched their relationship into the mountains themselves.

What’s striking isn’t the list of peaks or the bragging rights—it’s the way each climb reshaped their family story. Photos show kids growing up between trailheads. Tim adjusting gear straps with the kind of muscle memory you only get after years of practice. Kelly laughing about the duct tape phase. Their final summit—Mount Eolus—unfolded with their son watching from below. It reads like a full-circle moment, not a finish line.

A Very Boulder County Vacation

A Boulder vacation doesn’t require ski passes or a packed trunk—just a weekend and some curiosity. Start downtown with a sunrise hike up Mount Sanitas, then claim a booth at Village Coffee Shop or grab a loaf from Moxie. Wander Pearl Street for gifts at Bliss or stationery at Two Hands Paperie, and don’t skip a lap through McGuckin Hardware—the real locals’ landmark. Dinner can be a deli sandwich from Le Frigo or natural wine from Persona before ending the night at Press Play or catching comedy under the Boulderado.

Then head east. In Louisville and Lafayette, mornings mean views from Davidson Mesa, brunch at Morning Glory Café, and browsing flea-market treasures or records at Little Horse Vintage. Longmont closes it out with indie bookstores, rotating art exhibitions, pastries from Babettes, barbecue at Georgia Boys, and games at Quarters Bar + Arcade. Three towns, one easy weekend—Boulder County as its own getaway.

Celebrate the Solstice
When the sun sinks early behind the Flatirons and the air turns sharp, Boulder feels the pause that defines the winter solstice. December 21 marks the moment the sun stops its slow drift south before rising again — a brief stillness that humans have honored for thousands of years. From ancient stone circles aligned with the sunrise to festivals like Sol Invictus in Rome and Dongzhi in China, the longest night has always been a turning point: darkness as renewal, not defeat.

The instinct hasn’t disappeared. We feel it when we crave quiet during holiday chaos—lighting a candle, watching dusk through the window, or gathering with friends around a simple meal. The solstice reminds us that nature rests without apology, that winter isn’t falling behind—it’s part of the cycle. If you’re marking the season, do it your way: a breath of cold air outside, a moment of reflection, a toast to the returning light. The sun always finds its way back. And so do we.

Winter Flavors in Lyons

Lyons gets quiet when the snow hits — and that’s when it starts to shine. When the crowds thin and the air cools, its kitchens light up: family-run Nepalese spots, cozy bakeries, hand-crafted pastries and warm drinks that meet you as you wander Main Street under snow-dust hills. The story walks through dinners meant for lingering, drinks that taste like winter, and the kind of warmth you don’t need a fireplace for — just good company, good food, and small-town charm.

Whether you drive from Boulder or just want a different kind of dinner scene, Lyons in winter feels like the kind of place you could discover over and over — without waiting for festival crowds or summer hype.

The Fighter and the Filmmaker

Boulder isn’t just a place on the map — for some people, it’s where a story begins anew. In the film Easton, local director Bruce Grossman traces the life of martial-arts pioneer Amal Easton: from humble beginnings in Brazil to building a jiu-jitsu academy that became a community cornerstone. The documentary blends archival footage, raw emotion, and the grit of early days to show who Amal really is: teacher, fighter, and builder of something lasting.

This isn’t hype. It’s about the long haul—early belts, community gyms, global ties—woven into Boulder’s own story of reinvention. For anyone connected to the mats or the mountains, it’s a reminder: This town doesn’t just attract people—sometimes it helps people become legends.

Snow Before You Go

Ski season doesn’t begin at the lodge — it starts when you strap skis onto your car. Headed for a quick run near Boulder or chasing powder elsewhere in Colorado? This guide lays out what you really need: smart planning, gear checks, early-morning coffee, and a no-nonsense look at commute, crowd, and conditions before the first lift.

This isn’t about glam powder shots. It’s about mountain reality: sunrise starts, traffic on I-70, shifting weather, and the kind of grit that makes a ski day count. For locals or visitors — if you know the mountains, this story gets it.

Winter Wellness in Boulder

When the foothills go quiet under snow and the cold nudges you indoors, Boulder becomes an invitation to slow down. This guide moves through the places and practices that make winter feel restorative instead of restless — from tea rituals at Ku Cha House of Tea to candlelit yoga at Yoga Pearl, herbal support at Rebecca’s, and spa therapies that warm the body from the skin inward. It’s everything locals turn to when the season gets dark early but life doesn’t.

Each spot offers its own kind of grounding. A clay scrub that melts tension. A pot of tea you drink without checking your phone. A healing session that shifts your nervous system out of overdrive. None of it feels performative — it’s winter as a reset, the local way.
