Our facilities include 478 acres of lush, rotationally grazed pasture, custom feeding pens for individualized nutrition, stables, foaling stalls and round pens, covered Eurociser, and swimming pool for rehab and sales prep.

When swimming horses a team of four experienced handlers ensure the safety and welfare of the horse while maximizing outcomes in the pool.

The evening honors jockeys, owners, trainers and leaders in Louisiana thoroughbred horse racing and breeding.

This year’s honorees are Randy Romero, Shane Sellers, Craig Perret, Tom Early, James (Sweet) Hodges and Bernard Flint.

Four Scholarships to be Awarded at Louisiana Legends Night at Evangeline Downs June 7. 🎓

A marquee night of the Evangeline Downs season will take place on Saturday, June 7, with Louisiana Legends Night. Celebrate Louisiana Racing Legends with six stakes races worth $600,000 in total purse money plus a jockey meet & greet, t-shirt toss and more.

In addition, the Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association (LTBA) will award two scholarships, each valued at $1,000 to college students for a total of $2,000. Evangeline Downs will award two additional $1,000 scholarships to bring the total to four $1,000 scholarships.

Yockey’s Warrior

Yockey’s Warrior was typical of the kind of horse who usually ends up starting his stud career in a regional market. While speedy and honest with a respectable race record and quite decent bloodlines, his pedigree is not particularly fashionable and he was easily overshadowed by flashier horses from hot sire lines in the competition for mares as he began his stud career. Nonetheless, he fairly earned a shot at stud by displaying graded-class talent, and he has shown the ability to get nice winners at a bargain-basement fee of only $1,000 for 2025.
