In case you missed it! Mr. Brandon Green returned to Northside High in 2024 as a Defensive Back Coach and Special Education Teacher. A proud Northside High School Class of 2006 graduate, he is a dynamic example of leadership, resilience, and determination.
As a student-athlete at Northside High School, Mr. Green made a lasting impact both on the football field, on the track and in the classroom. He was a two-year football letterman, earning 2nd Team All-District and All-Parish honors. In track and field, he excelled as a three-year letterman and was a member of a state championship 4x100-meter relay team. His outstanding performances earned him All-State, All-Regional, and All-District honors for three consecutive years, while maintaining an outstanding GPA.
His athletic talent and academic dedication earned him a football scholarship to Southern University A&M College, where he majored in Secondary Education. After graduation, he briefly served as a Dean of Students at an elementary school in Baton Rouge before exploring opportunities in the oil field industry.
However, his passion for education and coaching ultimately called him back home. He returned to the sidelines to assist his former coach, Vincent Derouen, at St. Martinville Senior High School. During his three years there as Defensive Back Coach, he helped lead the program to a 2018 semi-final appearance. Under his leadership, three defensive backs earned opportunities to play football at the collegiate level.
In addition to football, Coach Green served as the Girls’ Track and Field Coach, capturing a District Championship in 2016 and earning a 3rd place Regional finish the same year. He successfully guided five female athletes across seven events to an LHSAA State competition, coaching one of those athletes to a State Championship Title.
Since being back at Northside, Green’s mission is clear: continue to restore the dominance and tradition of excellence that once defined the program. Colleagues say his leadership style blends accountability, discipline, and genuine care for his students.
While wins and championships matter, those closest to the program note that his greatest impact happens beyond public view — mentoring students, encouraging academic success, and teaching life lessons that stretch far beyond athletics.
Coach Green's journey, from athlete to educator, from the oilfields back to the classroom and sidelines, reflects resilience, commitment, and a deep love for his community, and reflects a deep commitment to excellence, resilience, and service to his community. Through his example, he inspires students to dream big, work hard, and pursue their passions with unwavering determination.
