We are deeply saddened by the passing of our longtime contributor and friend, Philip “Phil” Newman. Phil brought decades of hospitality and club-industry experience to BoardRoom, and he shared that knowledge with generosity, clarity and a kindness that shaped so many.

Phil had an extraordinary gift for translating complex operational ideas into human stories. He wrote with a global perspective, informed by a life that spanned Northern Ireland, Canada and the United States, and he always centered the member experience in a way that elevated our collective understanding of what great clubs can be.

More importantly, Phil was a mentor. He encouraged new writers, challenged thinking, and reminded all of us that service and leadership begin with humility. His steady presence, thoughtful approach and unmistakable warmth will be deeply missed.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to his wife Tammy, his daughter Rachel and all who loved him. Phil’s voice lives on in the work he leaves behind, and his influence will continue to guide our storytelling for years to come.
