Who remembers “Diamond Girl” by Nice & Wild?

Whether you loved the song or hated it made no difference. Whenever it played on Dance Party USA, it brought out the best in everybody. The beat took over, the energy went through the roof, and the entire studio came alive.

I’ve always thought it was a great song and a perfect representation of that moment in the ’80s. 😎

Ok let’s debate actor Ryan Reynolds comments about the 80’s.

Here’s my thoughts 👇

Ryan Reynolds was four years old in 1980 and growing up in Canada. Are we really supposed to believe that little boy was thinking about the Cuban Missile Crisis, which had happened nearly two decades earlier? 🤣🤣

Come on, man. That’s a ridiculous statement.

I can tell you what my four-year-old son is thinking about: Cocomelon and Ms. Rachel.🤣 Obviously Reynolds has no clue what the 80’s American experience was about.

I lived it…all of it and I completely disagree with him 😎 Was the 80’s perfect? No but no decade is. The pros of the 80’s outweighs the cons by a large margin IMO 🙌

“The 80s was a brutal, brutal time for people. It was a fu***ng mess and people forget that. It was a tremendous strife. Socio political tensions everywhere. We were still pretty fresh off a Cuban missile crisis, which was only 15-20 years before. It’s a tumultuous period, but you look back at it now and you’re like, ‘Oh, yeah. ‘Top Gun.’ Cocaine!’ Like, ‘No!’ It was really scary.”

"When you get far enough away from a time period that’s quite distinct, there’s always a lovely feeling associated with it, almost like you pave over all the trauma with puppy dogs and ice cream," Reynolds said in an interview with Variety. Twisted Sister’s 1984 hit “We’re Not Gonna Take It” is widely considered a Gen X anthem. Whenever it played on Dance Party USA, it fired us up and as you can see in this clip, we definitely weren’t holding back. 😂

What song would you choose to define Gen X?

At the end of the clip, host Dave Raymond is joined by a guest visiting the show named Joe Thomas. Joe gives a shout-out to some friends back home who were fans of Lillian and Princess. It’s such an innocent moment that captures something special about the 1980s.

Sadly, Joe passed away several years ago. I was fortunate enough to call him a friend after getting to know him later in life when he lived in Las Vegas. He was a good-hearted dude who proudly served his country as a Marine.

Whenever I see Joe in this clip, I’m reminded of him and of happier times.

He is deeply missed. 🙏
