Sometimes the stories that stay with us the longest are the ones that remind us just how much courage lives behind the scenes quiet courage, the kind no one sees, the kind you carry alone when you don’t want to worry the people you love.
In this throwback episode of All Talk Oncology, Peter Laneas opened up about a moment that would shake anyone: finishing chemo, being told he was “cured,” and then learning his next step came with a 50/50 chance of waking up. At 27. Alone. Still learning how to trust others with the weight of his reality.
What struck me most is how familiar this is for so many in the cancer community the instinct to protect your family, the pressure to be strong, the silent battles no one knows you’re fighting.
Peter’s story is a powerful reminder that bravery doesn’t always roar. Sometimes it whispers, “I’ll figure this out,” even when your hands are shaking.
If you’re walking through something heavy right now, I hope you know this:
You don’t have to face the hardest parts by yourself.
Your story matters.
Your fear is valid.
And your strength especially the quiet kind deserves to be seen.
