Heads up Maui! Now fresh, local food is more accessible than before! Have you visited Maui Hub yet? Let us know in the comments!

Hui!! That's right! You can now use your EBT to shop directly from local farmers and producers, and get harvested-to-order products delivered to you at one of 4 locations around Maui.

This is our first week, so mahalo for your patience as we roll this out. SNAP/EBT is a federal program, so with that comes a lot of logistics:). At the moment, we can only accept EBT payment in person, so that means you have to swipe your card when you pick up your order on Saturday. In order to ensure payment in case you don't show up to pick up your order, we have to ask for a backup credit or debit card number on the site, but you won't be charged unless you don't show up to pick up your food.

That's also why it can't be used for Lahaina orders, because we don't have enough machines for all sites yet. Soon, we will be set up to take EBT payment online, and it will be just like using your credit card.

The good news is, Maui Hub is now accessible to more people, AND every time you use EBT on Maui Hub, you are using federal dollars to support our local farmers.

We have also applied for the double bucks program, which gives you a 50% discount on fresh produce when you use your EBT. As soon as we get approved for that, we'll let you know.

Mahalo nui for your support of Maui Hub, as we work to redefine how we grow and distribute food, support our local farmers, and increase food production on Maui.

Day 2 - Halakaa Iwi Protection, Lahaina, Maui

Construction halted for the day with no further arrests at Halakaa where, for the second day, concerned community members gathered to protect iwi kupuna and culturally sensitive areas from ongoing private construction being done by West Maui Construction. Although the police were called for assistance by both parties today, Maui Police Department ultimately declined to intervene.

Lead organiser, Keeaumoku Kapu, described this conflict as “a civil matter” and requested documentation showing proof of title for the land parcels en route of the utility installation work. Yesterday, 5 wahine were arrested as part of a Citizens Arrest, all of whom identified themselves as either lineal descendants of Kuleana land parcels, or descendants of iwi kupuna in the area. The organisers of this direct action have said that they challenge the legality of yesterday’s arrests. There we no additional arrests today.

Keeaumoku Kapu, says that there are plans to gather again at the site tomorrow.
