I came over to Magic Kingdom this morning to check out the two attractions that have recently been redone.
Let’s start with Country Bear Jamboree.
Now I’m never one to like seeing a classic ride or show redone for any reason and I don’t think this one needed it, but it’s actually not bad. If you had never seen the old show you’d probably think that this was kinda awesome. I will miss the old show, but I’m not going to complain about what they did.
Now on to the mountain formerly known as Splash. I get the why they did what they did, even if I disagree with it. I was afraid that they would do what they did to the ride at Norway where it’s just a little bit (or a lot) of Disney make up to add a princess to an existing ride. IMO that’s what they did.
There are some pretty amazingly designed props throughout the ride, but the overall theming just seems massively disjointed. I mean at first you’re thinking it’s supposed to be culinary themed and then it goes into being about music and then at the end they throw some more culinary props in for, I really don’t know why.
I will always consider the ride Splash Mountain, just like I still say Downtown Disney and MGM, but I really think that Disney swung and missed with this. Tiana needed a restaurant, not a ride that doesn’t really have much to do with the overall scope of the movie.
