For this week’s show, we shine our artist spotlight on the Eagles, who were unquestionably the biggest mainstream American rock band to emerge in the 1970s. Not only did they sell more records and concert tickets than their peers, but they captured the shifting zeitgeist of the '70s, riding the country-rock hippie hangover at the end of the '60s until it reached the slick pop/rock of Southern California in the late '70s. We’ll take a closer look at the history of the Eagles, from their formation in the early 1970s to their rise to fame to their breakup and beyond. Catch our “Artist Spotlight: Eagles Show” on Saturday afternoon at 2, with re-broadcasts on Sunday night at 6 and Tuesday night at 10 only on McNeese Radio, KBYS 88.3, and streaming at kbys.fm.

Saturday 11/15

Old Time RnR on the Rock 'n Roll Gumbo on KBYS.

Tom and John understand the assignment:

1. Old records taken off the shelf

2. No disco

3. Music that soothes the soul

4. Reminisce about the days of old

5. 7-11am sit and listen by yourself … or with others!

Just take those old records off the shelf

I'll sit and listen to 'em by myself

Today's music ain't got the same soul

I like that old time rock and roll

Don't try to take me to a disco

You'll never even get me out on the floor

In ten minutes I'll be late for the door

I like that old time rock and roll

Still like that old time rock and roll

That kind of music just soothes the soul

I reminisce about the days of old

With that old time rock and roll…

Songs about time are about as old as songwriting itself. Musicians have long sought to capture the complexity of time. Individuals perceive the passage of time differently depending on their attitudes and circumstances. It often feels as if there isn’t enough of it. Sometimes we wish to go back in time, and sometimes we want to freeze it. Songwriters have echoed this sentiment, creating music about the clock’s unforgiving nature and the theme for this week’s show. Catch our “Time Show” on Saturday afternoon at 2, with re-broadcasts on Sunday night at 6 and Tuesday night at 10 only on McNeese Radio, KBYS 88.3, and streaming at kbys.fm.
