Cajun Shrimp Sausage Dirty Rice 🍚🌭
A flavorful and hearty dish that combines ground beef, sausage, and shrimp with seasoned rice and vegetables, perfect for a family dinner or a festive gathering.
Ingredients:
→ Main proteins
1 pound ground beef
1 pound ground sausage
10-12 large shrimp, peeled and deveined
→ Rice and vegetables
4 cups cooked rice
2 cups chicken broth
1½ cups onions and bell peppers, chopped
3 teaspoons minced garlic
3 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
→ Seasonings and spices
1 teaspoon seafood seasoning
¼ cup all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon chili powder
½ teaspoon black pepper
Salt to taste
Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)
Directions:
Cook the Proteins: In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef and sausage, cooking until browned and fully cooked. Remove the meat from the skillet and set aside.
Sauté the Vegetables: In the same skillet, add the remaining 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Add the chopped onions and bell peppers, sautéing until they are soft, about 5-7 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
Make the Roux: Sprinkle the flour over the sautéed vegetables and stir well, cooking for about 2 minutes to create a roux.
Add the Rice and Broth: Gradually stir in the chicken broth, mixing until smooth. Add the cooked rice, cooked ground beef, and sausage back into the skillet. Stir to combine all ingredients.
Season the Mixture: Add the seafood seasoning, oregano, thyme, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, black pepper, salt, and cayenne pepper (if using). Mix well and let it simmer for about 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
Cook the Shrimp: Gently fold in the peeled and deveined shrimp, cooking for an additional 3-5 minutes until the shrimp are pink and cooked through.
Serve: Remove from heat and let it sit for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy this delicious Cajun-inspired dish with your family and friends!
