This award-winning book is a must-have for every child’s library. With beautiful illustrations and a positive message about the impact one person can have on her community and her own life, it’s very special.
Today's A Mighty Girl Community Pick is in honor of author Barbara Cooney's 105th birthday: “Miss Rumphius." This National Book Award-winning picture book tells the story a young girl who promises her grandfather that she will do something to make the world more beautiful. As she grows, she searches for a way she can fulfill her promise. At last, she finally stumbles upon it in her own garden, and begins to plant lupine flowers everywhere she goes.
A model of curiosity, confidence, and creativity, Miss Rumphius shows us that sometimes the most meaningful activities are the simplest, and that even the loftiest aspirations can be realized with a little perseverance and lot of passion. The author’s gorgeous illustrations of Maine complement her charming storytelling. This classic story, recommended for ages 4 to 8, was included in School Library Journal's list of "Top 100 Picture Books" of all time.
