Summer can be a welcome time for rest and recuperation, and resting and recuperating is what our beloved Editor-in-Chief, Cassandra Lane, will be doing starting today as she heals from a needed medical procedure.

We are pleased to welcome one of our talented contributors, Michele Raphael, as L.A. Parent’s acting editor during Cassandra’s medical leave. Michele has a wealth of experience as an editor and writer, and has held such editorial roles as travel editor for Los Angeles Times and managing editor of AAA’s Westways Magazine, among others. A lifelong Angeleno, she grew up in Claremont, and holds a B.A in French from Pitzer College and an M.A. in journalism from USC Annenberg. As a culture, entertainment, health, lifestyle and travel writer, she contributes to Travel + Leisure, USA Today/Studio Gannett publications and L.A. Parent, among other outlets. Some of her recent L.A. Parent pieces include the May/June “Chat Room” cover story on star L.A. meteorologist Adam Krueger, “Dating While Parenting,” “Our Firefighters, Our Neighbors” and “Bonding in Big Bear,” a mother-daughter getaway featured in our upcoming issue, cowritten with her daughter, Mirabel, a rising sophomore at Yale University. She is most proud of being the mother of Mirabel and Leo, a rising high school senior.
