Garden things. Say hello to Bernadette the garden gnome.

An Asian Lady Beetle lands on a strawberry blossom.

My daughter is worse than the rabbits when it comes to basil and mint.

Dill is so beautiful. And the pollinators love it.

I’m becoming a bit of a Hosta-hollic. There are so many varieties and make everything look so lush and tropical.

My strawberries are doing their very best.

She loves to pick through the herb bed.

My poppies.

Pe**ee the garden gnome.

Another capture of this little wandering beetle.

Baby Grey Catbird in the tree over the garden.

More basil.

These day Orange Tawny Daylillie’s are super pretty, but pretty sure they’re invasive.

Kale and some little companion marigolds for the garden beds.

My snow peas before the groundhog got to them.

Picking away again.

More of these pretty Lillie’s as they linger up the hill

We such in a bit of time to explore between moving, and a revisit to Mount Tabor was the perfect stop.
This really is an interesting town to take a stroll through. It doesn’t quite feel like you’re in Jersey anymore. It’s like a little fairytale.
The village radiates outward from the pedestrian-only Trinity Park. The community features several unique octagonal structures, including the Tabernacle, the Bethel, and the public library.
Founded In 1869 as a Methodist Camp Meeting, Mount Tabor was part of a nation-wide religious movement and one of several permanent campgrounds in New Jersey.
The district’s 220 buildings radiate from a central green space where remarkable examples of Carpenter Gothic architecture are laid out in a distinctive camp meeting design.
The Mount Tabor Historical Society actively preserves the town’s heritage and operates the Richardson History House Museum, which is open for tours.
It’s a beautiful place to take a walk through but always be mindful as the charming homes are occupied.

We took a short walk along the Delaware & Raritan Canal State Park Trail in Colonial Park after enjoying the roses.
This trail follows the historic, 1830s-era mule towpath, leading us along a flat, well-maintained surface of finely crushed stone that my daughter enjoyed running her fingers through to draw some interesting patterns.
We enjoyed walking along the slow moving canal waters while spotting all types of birds, silly shy turtles and the occasional water snake.

Some of the gorgeous blooms you will see within the Rudolf W. van der Goof Rose Garden.
From late spring through the fall, the roses present within the Rudolf W. van der Goot Rose Garden are an ever changing scene of color, form, and fragrance.
The formal one-acre rose garden was established in 1971 and contains more than 3,000 roses of 345 labeled varieties.
This includes popular modern hybrid roses, species roses, and various classes of heirloom or ā€œOld Garden rosesā€ (types grown before 1867).
The garden was named in honor of Rudolf W. van der Goot, the first horticulturist with the Somerset County Park Commission, as a tribute to his efforts in designing and developing the garden.
This gorgeous rose garden is the main attraction at Colonial Park Gardens, attracting thousands of visitors each week in the summer. A visit to the garden provides educational opportunities, including learning about rose care, what roses to grow in the home garden, and the rich history of roses.
The garden is free to visit and open April through October.
Pets, picnics, and wedding ceremonies are not permitted. Guided tours can be arranged for a small fee.

I had the opportunity to tour this absolutely stunning hidden garden today with my daughter.
This gorgeous little oasis is nestled behind a residential home on a quiet street in Nutley, New Jersey!
The lovely little teal house hides a backyard that feels like stepping into a botanical garden that I would see on one of my episodes of ā€˜s ā€œGardener’s World.ā€
This garden was hosta heaven! And it really inspired me with different ideas of how I can transform the outdoor space of our new home as well.
This renowned private garden opens to the public just four times a year (theee times this year at the garden host’s request,) bringing visitors from Essex County and beyond, as we did.
This space is the lifelong work of Silas Mountsier and Graeme Hardie, both Nutley residents, created with the help of collaborating landscape architect Richard Hartledge.
This really is a true hidden gem in New Jersey. Be sure to check the website to reserve your ticket for their next opening on September 12th !
