Black Magik the Infidel Interview!!!
10 Questions from Devilrap
1. "Seven albums deep is a serious legacy in the underground scene. Looking back at early projects like Devil in the Flesh or Armaghetto, how has your approach to dark storytelling changed for this new record?"
Black Magik The Infidel - "I honestly feel this is the best album I've made so far. Lyrically, I've grown so much with my flow, storytelling, and song concepts. For example Moans From The Chapel or Neuralinkkk are light years beyond anything from Armaghetto or Devil In The Flesh".
2. "Sonically, horrorcore has mutated a lot over the years. Are we getting the classic, gritty production your fans look for, or did you experiment with some new, unexpected sounds for this release?"
Black Magik The Infidel - With this release, I intentionally made sure the beats were more intense, faster, and futuristic as earthly possible. Yet I stayed true to my dark doomsday sound.
3. "Pontiac has its own distinct, gritty energy. How does the environment of the 'Yactown' sneak into your music, and do you feel like Pontiac horrorcore hits differently than Detroit horrorcore?"
Black Magik The Infidel - Living in Pontiac, Michigan, and growing up in Detroit, Michigan, has definitely influenced my lyrics and outlook on life. You can't be surrounded by that level of violence and not be affected. If it doesn't consume you entirely.
4. "Michigan is arguably the historic capital of the wicked underground. How do you see your place in that legacy today, and how do you keep the sound fresh when the state's horrorcore roots run so deep?"
Black Magik The Infidel - First off, I'm so proud of that legacy Esham, ICP, Twizted, ABK, etc. made back in the day. All I try to do is put a modern 2026 twist to it, while staying true to that dark sound and not selling out.
5. "You've shared tracks with underground royalty like Insane Poetry on 'It Is Written'. What is the creative energy like when two forces of the wicked underground link up? Do you try to out-write each other?"
Black Magik The Infidel - I wouldn't say outdo each other, but doing a track with a legend like Insane Poetry, you know you have to come with some absolute fire.
6. "You also have tracks like 'Like Father Like Son' featuring MoneyMakerMajik, from your last album. How does it feel bringing family or close inner-circle creators into such a dark, theatrical musical world?"
Black Magik The Infidel - I have been doing this for so long, it's amazing to record a song with my son. Music is just in our genes, I guess.
7. "With the 7th album dropping, what does the live show experience look like for this era? Are you planning to bring the theatrical elements of the album onto the stage?"
Black Magik The Infidel - Oh yeah, I have a lot of new surprises for my headline shows. I'm not going to give up any secrets. You're going to have to come and see firsthand. Just know it's going to be wicked.
8. "You do a lot of shows in Michigan. Any plans to tour out of state for this album?"
Black Magik The Infidel - Yes, there's the New Messiah Tour this Summer with shows in Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania, and Texas. Also, this fall, I will be at the Hog Daddy Festival at Cave In Rock in Illinois and Gorefest in Denver, Colorado.
9. "When the dust settles on this album cycle, what do you want the definitive statement of this project to be for the Infidel fanbase?"
Black Magik The Infidel - Hopefully they feel it's another evil and dark classic, if not my best work ever.
10. "Alright, Black Magik, here's the last question. Do you consider your music horrorcore, Dark Hip Hop, or both?"
Black Magik The Infidel - I am both with my doped-up, drugged-out, Devil music.
