Missouri Tiger quarterback and pitcher Sam Horn has officially signed with the Dodgers for $497,500. Horn was picked by the Dodgers as the No. 525 overall selection in the 17th round of the MLB Draft on July 14. His position in Mizzou's quarterback competition will remain unchanged due to this deal. He is still eligible to play for the Tigers and has made it clear that he intends to compete for the starting QB role after being selected. The redshirt junior will not join the Dodgers until after the 2025 football season. As a member of the Tiger baseball team, the quarterback and right-handed pitcher pitched around 15 innings, following Tommy John surgery. In 2025, Horn pitched 10.2 innings, striking out 14 batters while allowing only five runs on seven hits. Even though Horn will return to play football, according to NCAA rules, he will not be able to rejoin the Mizzou baseball team for the 2026 season.

The Cardinals traded veteran pitcher Erick Fedde to the Braves for a player to be named later or cash. As part of the agreement, the Cardinals will pay most of Fedde's remaining 2025 salary of $7.5 million. St. Louis designated Fedde for assignment earlier this week, and this trade gives them a chance to get something in return instead of just covering Fedde’s salary if he had cleared waivers. Fedde had a good season in 2024, achieving a 3.30 ERA in 177⅓ innings with the White Sox and Cardinals. However, this year has been tough for the right-hander. After twenty starts, Fedde has a record of 3-10 with a 5.22 ERA and a 1.51 WHIP, and his performance has drastically declined, showing a 13.25 ERA in his last five starts over 17 2/3 innings.
