Today, as we reflect on what service means, in my family, that call runs deep. My dad served. All eight of his brothers served. One stormed the beaches at Normandy, others in Korea. My cousin fought in Vietnam. My niece answered the call after 9/11. And my son-in-law continues that legacy today, protecting the skies flying.
Service like that humbles me. Behind every person who serves is a family who also sacrifices, parents who worry, spouses who hold down the home front, children who count the days until their loved one returns. Generations of families have carried that weight quietly and proudly, knowing that service is more than a single act, it’s a shared commitment of love, courage, and faith in something greater than ourselves.
To all who have served and continue to serve, we say thank you. Your courage, sacrifice, and love of country inspire generations.
