William Owens is a proud and longtime member of the VanderCook family, having earned the Bachelor of Music Education Degree from VCM in1985. The VanderCook Symphonic Band have performed his pieces at the Midwest Clinic on numerous occasions, and the upcoming 2025 convention will mark his 2nd appearance as guest conductor for the band.
William Owensβ mission revolves around providing music that brings joy to performer and listener alike. A true champion of music education, Owens has influenced the lives of countless students. After graduating from VanderCook, Owens taught music in Texas for 30 years until his retirement in 2014. However, his work in the field continues, and his love for music education is stronger than ever. An accomplished composer, clinician, and conductor, William Owens has written over 400 commissioned and published works for band, orchestra, and small ensemble.
