I'm sad to admit that I haven't taken my kids to do volunteer work in quite awhile. I used to bring my daughter places for volunteering and unfortunately, life just started getting in the way.

But now that all of them are older, I really want to get them back into it! This past Sunday i went to one of my favorite volunteer organizations, Gratitude Generation! My 4yo boys made birthday cards and helped to stuff goodie bags for kids who need them.

G2 provides families and organizations with opportunities to volunteer and do community service. I can't wait to start taking all my kids to more G2 events where they can learn different ways to service those in need.

‼ Today is National Parents Day Off day ‼

Ok, we all know that there's really no such thing as a "day off" from being a parent, but it doesn't hurt to go out and enjoy yourself without the kids every once in awhile!

I will not be having a "day off" today, but this coming Wednesday, a friend and I will be at Brushwood Center's BASE workshop making decoupage vases!

At this workshop, we will be using assorted fabrics to cut, layer and glue patterns onto the outside of plain glass vases, then sealed with Modge Podge.

All BASE workshops are being held at The Art Center Highland Park until the end of the year while the BASE at the Brushwood Center is going through renovations!

🫧 Bubble Bash - NE Illinois, SE Wisconsin and South Central Wisconsin!! 🫧

My twins' birthday isn't until the end of the month, but we wanted to take advantage of the beautiful weather, so we bumped their party up a couple of weeks.

But the real challenge was how to find a unique and affordable way to celebrate their birthdays when needing to invite their friends from FOUR different classrooms. Kori from Bubble Bash - NE Illinois, SE Wisconsin and South Central Wisconsin came to our rescue!

Bubble Bash hosted an AMAZING foam party for my boys and all of their friends! Kori the owner is energetic and very easy to work with. All you need is the outdoor space, an outlet, and a hose hookup, and she does the rest! There are also options to make it a Glow Party, or add some color to the foam.

Not sure you want to do a foam party? They offer a Bubble Party as well!

🎆 Lindy's Landing 3rd of July Dinner & Fireworks! 🎆

If you’ve been following me for awhile, then you should know that we absolutely LOVE Lindy's Landing in Wauconda! Casual beach dining by the lake in the summer, a yummy fish & shrimp boil in the fall, and our all-time favorite Brunch with Santa in the winter!

But yesterday was the 1st time we experienced their 3rd of July Dinner and Fireworks event, and it has lived up to our expectations!

You may recall that it rained on the 3rd of July, so the city of Wauconda rescheduled their fireworks show to yesterday. Lindy's Landing has a front row seat to the show with amazing views! We sat in the balcony for dinner beforehand, while the kids played in the lake and danced to the DJ.

We can’t wait to make this even an annual tradition!

📚 Today is National Read a Book Day! 📚

As some of you may recall, last year I made a New Year's Resolution to start reading again. Not only did I start reading, I read 74 books! This year, I've been trying to continue the trend, and while I don't think I'll make it up to 74 books again, I am currently at 41 🎉

I have quite a handful of 4.5 and above books I've rated, but a most recent one I really enjoyed is "Strange Sally Diamond" by Liz Nugent

This was so wonderfully written and it portrayed the main character so beautifully. I was tearing up at times with how much she grew and how brave she was. The overall storyline was very clever and I liked how the different perspectives eventually converged. Highly recommend!!

Today is National Wildlife Day! So what better time to post about the amazing time we had at Wildlife Prairie Park in Hanna City IL last summer.

If you’re looking for a relaxing and outdoorsy quick getaway, this place is it! There is so much to explore within Wildlife Prairie Park. From the glorified nature center in the Visitor’s Center, to the reptile house, to the many trails to explore, to the wildlife animals throughout the park, to the train that takes you on a couple routes, and the special events, nature walks, and adventure tours… you are bound to find fun things to do for everyone!

You can easily visit Wildlife Prairie Park for just the day, but you can also easily stretch out to 1 or 2 days. We decided to make a long weekend of it, and stayed a couple of nights. They have some really unique lodging options, including staying in a train car or in a grain bin! We would have loved to stay in one of those, but needed something a little bigger, so we opted to stay in one of their cabins. We were pleasantly surprised by how large and spacious it was and would absolutely stay there again.

If you wanted to leave the park for a bit, it is conveniently located near Peoria, where there are a lot of fun options to do there also. We took a quick trip to a Peoria Zoo during our stay, and actually also went to Miller Park Zoo on our way home.

🎳 Today is National Bowling League Day! 🎳

My husband and son joined a father / son bowling league at Lakeside Recreation Center in Mundelein over the summer and had so much fun! My son is only 7 and they were by far the youngest duo there, but it was a great 1x/wk activity for them to do together :)

Lakeside Recreation Center has their Fall Leagues posted and there are still openings for some of them!

As I'm sure you realize by now, I love to do a lot of arts & crafts classes. Last week the Vernon Hills Park District offered this SUPER FUN handwoven basket class! This was by far one of my favorite classes I've ever taken! The instructor was really great too. Many times, these classes are really dependent on who is teaching it, and she did an amazing job explaining and helping everyone with their weaving.

There are a couple more weaving classes on schedule for this year and I can't wait to go to more!
