I was able to get a get several R***r Mark IV 5 1/2” barrels at a good price so I’m cutting them down and treading the ends for suppressors or compensators. Whether you’re ringing steel or popping soda cans, these Mark IV pistols are so much fun to shoot.

Several weeks ago I sent an email with photos to LPA in Italy asking if I could get a replacement elevation screw. They sent me the screw and springs. It was hard work but I wanted to see if I could repair it. It looks like the screw had been turn down until it hit the frame then sheered off leaving a threaded stud. And I did! It’s a gunsmith thing! Very satisfying to have repaired this sight.

Just finish a project for a local guy. The Smith & Model 10-5 had the typical 4” tapered barrel. The customer wanted a 4” “heavy” barrel. So I did a barrel swap, set the cylinder gap at 0.007”, cleaned up some very minor rust pitting, and re-blued the revolver. Before and after photo attached.

New project slowly coming together.

I know I said that I have something in the works that I think you guys and gals will like. There has has been a delay. I lost one of my prism glasses, and it’s been pretty tough working on things. But hang in there. Soon, very soon.

Wow. Thank you to all the people who “like” and follow my page. It’s been a rough year since my emergency surgery and adjusting to my new way of life. But I have some things in the works that I hope everyone will enjoy. So stay tuned. I just might be reaching out to you to be apart of this new project.

I can’t say enough about having the right tool for the job. Yes I could have, as some gunsmith and do it yourself type do, just cut the barrel down an chamfer the outside edge with a file. But I like to put an 11° crown when I cut a barrel. It looks professional, and in my opinion is the right way to do the job.

Customer reached out to me to install a 3” Stainless Steel barrel and a Stainless Steel cylinder on his Smith & Wesson Model 342PD AirLite. Not many gunsmiths will work on a J frame much less an AirLite. These models have the new design shroud over the barrel. The barrel is screwed in using a special factory only tool that engages the rifling to torque the barrel in place. The other option is to cut the shroud off and unscrew the barrel. It takes a light touch when installing the new barrel. Too much torque and you’ll pull the threads in the frame. Then I installed the original front sight on to the new barrel. I think the customer will be happy to hear the job is done without destroying the little J frame.

After reading about John Jovino’s Gun Shop and the modifications they made to a Smith & Wesson Model 25 in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s that they called a Jovino Effector, I decide to incorporate several of their modifications into a project revolver. The price of Smith & Wesson Model 25 make using it as the base gun is out of the budget so I found a Smith & Wesson 1917.

Smith & Wesson 1917 in the shop today for a re-barrel. The original snub nose barrel is shot out, having practically no rifling left. The customer stated that the revolver has very poor accuracy at 10 yards.
