It was announced during this evening's Lakeview Town Council meeting that three council members have submitted their resignations, effective March 31. The names of the resigning council members were not given. The Town is seeking letters of interest from Lakeview residents who would like to serve on the town council. Letters should be submitted to the Town of Lakeview by March 20 so they may be considered at the council's next scheduled meeting.
Additionally, Lakeview Mayor Kevin Sims announced an hour into the meeting that public comment will not be permitted at town council meetings until further notice due to disruptions during the council's previous meeting.

The Friends of Lake County Library District is hosting its annual Books, Brats and Beer dinner on the patio of the main library on Thursday, August 14 at 5:30 p.m.

The event is free to Friends, Library Board and committee members, the Endowment Fund, and library employees. Cost of dinner is $15 for non-members, but you can save by joining the Friends for $10 and getting this delicious and fun meal free — plus you help your library.

The Friends of Lake County Library District's mission is to support the library district by providing funds and person power to enhance the library’s collection and services. The Friends also sponsor the Dolly Parton Imagination Library throughout Lake County. In the first half of 2025, local children received 1,240 books. The Library District's share is $12.50 per child per year, the Oregon Early Learning Division (with the help of private partners) pays $12.50, and Dolly funds the rest.

Due to significant loss of projected tax revenue for the 2025-2026 fiscal year, the library cannot purchase any new books. The Friends are covering all costs to maintain the collection during this difficult period.

Membership is $10 for individuals, $25 for a family, $50 for a Business Friend, and $250 for a Lifetime Friend. The Friends meet at the Lakeview library at 5:30 p.m. the second Thursday of each month. "Please join us, whether in person or by Zoom. Or just help out by becoming a paying but non-active member. Hope to see you on Thursday!" the Friends said.

The public is welcome to attend the tryouts for Lake County’s 2026 Round-Up Court this Sunday, Aug. 10 at the Lake County Fairgrounds. Contestants will enter the arena at approximately 4:45-5 p.m. Sunday. Bailey Harrington, Haley Neider, and Harleigh Goodan will compete to see who will be named Lake County Round-Up queen and princess.
The winners will be announced on Labor Day — Monday, Sept. 1 — during the PRCA Rodeo.
The tryout process includes an individual interview with a panel of five judges, performing an individual reining pattern and answering questions in the arena with judges, carrying the flag around the arena at a fast lope, and a grand entry run before lining up in the center of the arena. The last component will be an impromptu question; the contestant will be read the question by themselves, then walked a distance where they will then answer it in front of the judges and audience.

Lakeview resident Nicholas Cardoza, 61, was pronounced deceased at the scene of a two-vehicle crash on Tuesday, July 1.
According to Oregon State Police, preliminary investigation indicated that a white Mercedes Sprinter van, operated by Daniel Klinkert, 48, of Tulsa, Okla., was traveling eastbound on Highway 140 near milepost 1 when it entered the intersection with a southbound commercial motor vehicle towing double trailers, operated by Cardoza.
In an effort to avoid colliding with the van, Cardoza swerved the red Kenworth he was driving; the Kenworth left the roadway and rolled.
The operator of the Mercedes van, Klinkert, was not injured.
The highway was impacted for approximately six hours during the on-scene investigation. The crash remains under investigation.
Oregon State Police was assisted by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Lakeview EMS, Lakeview Fire Department, and Thomas Creek-Westside Fire Department.
