This afternoon, the Seaside Park Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched to a reported brush fire behind residences in the area of 322 Roberts Avenue in South Seaside Park.

First-arriving units located a moderate-sized brush fire burning within the reeds and beach vegetation along the bayfront. Strong northwest winds contributed to fire spread and created challenging operating conditions. Due to limited access, crews stretched multiple handlines from apparatus positioned on Roberts Avenue and advanced them down the beach to the fire area.

The New Jersey Forest Fire Service was requested to assist due to the fire’s location within the brush. Through the quick actions of firefighters, the fire was contained before it could make a significant run through the surrounding reed beds.

Seaside Park Volunteer Fire Company, Seaside Park Police Department, Tri-Boro EMS, and additional mutual aid resources operated on scene for approximately one hour.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Seaside Park Police Department and Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office.

Last year’s holiday weekends at the Jersey Shore got out of control fast. Fights, chaos, damage, and crowds treating our beach towns like there were no rules.

If you’re coming down the shore this weekend, have fun but respect the towns, the locals, the police, first responders, and the businesses that make these places what they are.

Don’t be the reason another town gets trashed or another night turns chaotic. We all want a good summer, not another scene like this.

And if you do decide to act up, just know there’s a good chance your weekend ends in handcuffs instead of on the beach.

Be smart. Respect the Shore.

Large police response tonight in Pier Village, Long Branch after an estimated crowd of 750–1000 people gathered for a pop-up style party that quickly escalated into multiple disturbances and fights.

Around 5:30 PM, officers began receiving numerous calls reporting a rapidly growing crowd and disorderly activity in the area. Long Branch Police arrived to find hundreds of people packed throughout Pier Village and immediately requested mutual aid from surrounding agencies.

The Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office responded along with the Monmouth County Rapid Deployment Force as neighboring departments sent officers to assist. More than 100 officers were eventually operating on scene.

A Long Branch Police Sergeant coordinated a mandatory crowd dispersal operation, establishing a secure perimeter and moving the crowd westbound from Pier Village toward the train station. Approximately 50 officers maintained the line while safely escorting hundreds of people out of the area to prevent further incidents and keep the situation under control.

This comes as Memorial Day Weekend crowds begin arriving at the Jersey Shore, with law enforcement agencies already preparing for planned pop-up gatherings throughout the region this week.

Strong coordinated response tonight by all agencies involved to safely manage a rapidly evolving situation before it escalated further.
