Stop asking God for easier battles when he can give you stronger armor.

So I was reading Isaiah 43 and something really stood out to me. God starts by saying, “I have called you by name, you are mine,” and that hit me because He doesn’t start by telling people to clean themselves up or fix everything first, He starts with belonging. Basically saying you belong to me before anything else. Then He says something else that’s important, He says when you pass through the waters and when you walk through the fire, not if, when. So God’s not promising that life won’t get hard or messy, He’s saying when it does happen He’ll be with you in it and it won’t destroy you. And then later in the chapter He says He blots out our sins and won’t remember them anymore, and the part that really caught my attention is He says He does that for His own sake, meaning He forgives because that’s who He is, not because we finally got everything right. So the way I see the whole chapter is this: God knows your name, you belong to Him, life is going to throw some storms at you, but they’re not going to take you out, and your past doesn’t get the final say in your life anymore, God does.

So last night at discipleship group, our leader asked how do you pray? And I just told him the truth. I said, man, I just talk to God. I don’t do the kneel by the bed thing. I don’t have fancy words. I just tell Him what’s in my heart. That’s it. And I admitted I don’t really know how to pray out loud with other people yet. I’m still new. I’m still learning. That’s why when they ask who wants to close us out in prayer, I usually stay quiet and let it pass. Then tonight, at my regeneration group, they asked again. And the leader looked right at me. And for whatever reason, something in me said, you know what, I got this. So I did it. I stumbled. I stammered. I wasn’t smooth. I wasn’t polished. I wasn’t impressive. But I prayed. Out loud. In front of people. For the first time. And man, God met me right there. It hit me that prayer isn’t about sounding good. It’s about being real. It’s about relationship. It’s about just showing up as you are, rough edges and all. I’m not refined. I’m still an unopened geode on the outside. But God is cracking me open little by little. And moments like this remind me He’s not done with me yet. Grateful tonight. Emotional. Growing. Thankful. And thankful for a God who keeps meeting me right where I am.
