I know the following here is quite small as this page was a way for me to keep up with and inform family in Maine about weather, locally, while working in Texas.

I am pleased to share that I have just completed my first week at NEWS CENTER Maine. You can follow along Alan Holt if you’d like to keep up with my thoughts on Maine weather. Thank you!

Snow totals from December 2/3.

3-5" in Bangor
1-3" at the coast
Down the turnpike from about Waterville and south saw more; 5-8" or so.

The storm performed as expected south and west of Downeast Maine. Interior Downeast Maine came in with a little less than advertised here. Coastal Downeast played out as expected.

DEC 1 - A nor'easter will work past Maine Tuesday and into early Wednesday. Precipitation will begin to ramp up in the late morning hours of Tuesday and conclude by around 4 or 5 am, Wednesday.

COASTAL: There will likely be a mix of rain and snow for the first half of this event, although it may start with a few flakes. It looks like temps warm just enough to keep much accumulation from happening at the coast. There should be a transition to snow Tuesday overnight at the coast. At the end of the event (Wednesday, pre-dawn), there may be 1-3" of snow.

INLAND: There will be more snow away from the coast as temperatures will be colder. This will mean higher totals in the 6-8" range with locally higher amounts. The timing is the same here...starting late morning, ending 4/5a Wednesday.

Of course, keep up with the latest from verified sources. The rain/snow line can be tricky and it can also shift around throughout the day.

DEC 1 - High resolution snowfall projections are up a smidge. Many in line for between 6 and 10" of snow beginning Tuesday, late morning. It'll be moving out by around sunrise, Wednesday.

I still think there will be some rain or wet snow at the immediate coast during the first part of this event, which will cut down on totals there. It's possible some spots get over a foot of snow. Most likely region for that to happen will be in Southern or Mid-Coast Maine.

NOV 30 - Snow outlook for the Tuesday/Wednesday storm. Some spots up to between 6-8". There may be some rain mixing in with wet snow at the immediate coast, which would cut down on totals a bit there.

There is some boom/bust potential with this storm. Some guidance is much higher than this. There's about a 30-40% chance that a foot of snow falls on an axis from Bangor to Sebago Lake.

The trend on the storm TUE/WED AM of next week looks to be a track a little more away from the coast. In that case, there likely will be some coastal snowfall with less inland/toward the mountains. It doesn't look like a terribly high amount.

The European Model has been fairly consistent with this track and the GFS is starting to come around. However, the GFS wants to throw out a lot more snow. I'm weary of that outcome. 3" looks like a good over/under for now.

The trend I am most interested in is the track. The closer this low tracks to the coast, the more likely it's rain or very wet snow at the coast with a lot more snow inland. There's still time for tweaks here.

NOV 28 - I'm sure you've heard the buzz on next week's storm. Confidence is high on this happening Tuesday into Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. What's not as clear cut is how it plays out with respect to who gets what type of precipitation.

Precip types for Maine will hinge on how/where the center of low pressure driving this system tracks.

A track closer to the coast would likely mean coastal rain and inland snow - some of it pretty heavy. This, as onshore winds around the counter-clockwise spinning 'low' push milder air into coastal locations on the approach.

A track a little farther from the coast would pull in colder air from the north. This scenario would allow the low to pull in northeasterly winds, cooling things down statewide and focusing snow closer to the coast.

Not ready to be 'all in' on any one model or scenario, but clarity in that department will come over the weekend/Monday. Stay tuned!

NOV 25 - Expect rain showers to move into Downeast Maine around midnight tonight. They'll linger through Wednesday mid-morning. A break into late morning/early afternoon with additional passing rain showers into Wednesday night.

Precip winds down on Thanksgiving Day with breaks in the clouds. Temperatures make a run at 50° Thursday afternoon. SW breeze at 8-15mph.

Simulated radar loop is from 4p Tuesday- 7a Thursday.
