ARTIST SPOTLIGHT 🎨✨ Meet neighbor and artist Sara Bush!

After a 31 year career teaching elementary music, Sara found a second creative passion in oil painting, inspired by fellow art teachers, travels through Italy, and the beauty of the natural world around her.

What began with painting her own dogs has grown into nearly 100 commissioned pet portraits featuring beloved dogs, cats, horses, birds, and even guinea pigs. Her favorite part? Painting the eyes first, creating a connection with each animal and capturing what owners cherish most.

New to Lancaster and already inspired by its beauty, Sara hopes to continue growing her work and connecting with the local arts community.

Meet the Carlsons, our featured family for May!

After spending 40 years in Texas, Bob and Jane Carlson found their way back to the East Coast and instantly knew School Lane Hills was home. In fact, Bob decided to buy their house before he even stepped inside after chatting with neighbors walking their dogs while waiting for a late real estate agent.

From high school sweethearts in New Jersey to careers in international shipping and education, the Carlsons have built a life centered around curiosity, adventure, family, and community.

Together they embody the warmth and friendliness that make School Lane Hills such a special place to call home.

Meet Arnold Palmer (aka Arnie)

This sweet rescue pup is the newest addition to a Jackson Drive family and he’s already stolen hearts all around School Lane Hills. From carrying his favorite nylabone everywhere he goes to running for ice cubes at the sound of the freezer, Arnie brings joy, energy, and a whole lot of personality to the neighborhood.

After a difficult loss, Arnold has helped fill their home with love again, reminding us just how special it is to give a rescue pet a second chance. And if you see him out on a walk (or being carried like the little king he is), don’t forget to say hi!

Illumination, Prima Theatre’s Candlelit Holiday Concert returns this Friday, 11/21, and is playing through Tuesday, 12/23.

December is crowded — errands, obligations, the endless scroll. Prima Theatre’s ILLUMINATION is an energizing pause button: a candlelit holiday concert that replaces the season’s noise with joy, wonder, and peace.

Prima’s intimate Lancaster space, where every seat is just a few rows from the performers, is at 941 Wheatland Avenue, within walking distance of much of School Lane Hills!

Now in its 15th Anniversary Season, Prima has refreshed and reimagined the production
for 2025 with new arrangements, choreography, and staging.

Directed and choreographed by Cody Smith with concept by Mitch Nugent, ILLUMINATION begins with stillness and gradually blossoms into a gathering of music, movement, and shared presence. Beloved carols and modern favorites are reborn in arrangements that highlight the closeness of singers, musicians, and audience, surrounded by hundreds of
glowing candles.
Last year, Lancaster native and Tony Award-winner Jonathan Groff attended and described the experience as “exquisite.”
