It will be a nice, warm day today which will help to fire off some severe storms. Gusty winds and lightning are the biggest risk. We cannot rule out a chance for a brief tornado. Keep an eye on the sky!

Dangerous cold temps will be in place for the weekend in
An inch of snow is forecast today after rush hour.
Temps will drop all day today with a low of 9° Saturday morning. Wind chill temps will be -18°. Sunday will be just as cold with wind chills around -15°. If you need to be out, dress in layers and cover up. Frostbite is possible at the temps in less than 10 minutes.

UPDATE: the latest models runs has this out to sea.

As the clean up continues, we are watching another system to affect the area next weekend. It is way to early to talk timing and amounts. This is a heads up to leave room in your yard for more snow. We will provide updates when needed.

The transition to sleet is occurring in many areas I Lancaster PA. Sleet mixing with snow is expected this afternoon into the evening. 3+ inches of snow is expected with another 2+ inches of sleet. Precip should stop this evening between 8-10 PM. Behind the precip, extremely cold temps will push in with the coldest air of the winter. Low temps will be in the single digits all week.

The storm is progressing as expected. Dry air aloft delayed the snow, but it has picked up. It is bitter cold. If you need to go out, allow extra time, dress in layers, and have an emergency kit. There are heavier bands of snow in Maryland that are coming our way.

THIS IS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION! Stay home!

WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 10 PM SATURDAY TO 1 PM EST MONDAY...

* WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 10 and 18 inches.

* WHERE...A portion of south central Pennsylvania.

* WHEN...From 10 PM Saturday to 1 PM EST Monday.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Widespread and prolonged travel disruptions are expected.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snow will overspread the area late Saturday evening into Saturday night, becoming heavy at times through
Sunday with accumulation rates of one to two inches per hour at times. Snow may mix with sleet or freezing rain near and south of
the Pennsylvania Turnpike on Sunday afternoon, which may cut down on total snow accumulations. Frigid temperatures and wind chills are expected before, during, and after the winter storm. Some blowing and drifting snow is possible.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Persons should consider delaying all travel. Motorists should use extreme caution if travel is absolutely necessary.
