A horse grows foot. It's up to us as professionals to decide how much to leave, how much to remove. Is the horse growing enough foot for the job it has? Does it have a job? How often the cycle of care needs to be for what the foot creates and grows. When the feet stand in wet soft soil they adapt, as to when they stand on hard dry ground. Horses are very stoic and do good in spite of us not because of us. Trying to meet up with what the animal actually can thrive from is paramount. A 1200lb animal that stands on their feet pretty much 24/7 (with the occasional sun bath) The pastern is a misunderstood apparatus that makes this magnificent creature float on air, and really doesn't need the life long prescription of elevating heels and removing breakover. It's up to us as a caretaker to figure out quickly what the horse needs and head in that direction. Repetition and field research are really the only thing going to try and figure out trimming, and shoeing. Being a farrier is not the simple affair made out to be by the non-professional mind.
