super excited hopefully it’s good
Every frame of Buffet Infinity is a fake commercial. No plot scenes, no narration, no characters explaining anything. You're just surfing late-night regional cable from the fictional Westridge County, Alberta, and slowly realizing the town is coming apart.
It starts with the mundane stuff: car lots, lawyers, a local news bumper, a beloved sandwich shop called Jenny's. Then a suspiciously cheap all-you-can-eat chain, Buffet Infinity, moves in and starts running its own ads. Townspeople stop showing up. A downtown sinkhole grows. A cult surfaces with apocalyptic warnings. The "restaurant" begins bleeding through the screen as staticky, analog-distorted body horror.
Director Simon Glassman started it in 2020 as a single YouTube sketch parodying local commercials, then spent years building hundreds of bespoke fake ads with jingles and lighting that feel wrong in exactly the right ways. Shot in Edmonton on an indie budget, it plays like a lost cable archive rather than a movie.
It premiered at Fantasia in July 2025, took Best Editing at the Brooklyn Horror Film Festival, and hit limited theaters and VOD earlier this year. Critics have compared it to SCTV crossed with WNUF Halloween Special and Ghostwatch.
The Shudder premiere is Friday, August 22.
