Local news is how we find out about what's going on, hold our leaders accountable, and build connection with our neighbors. But the business model is broken, and communities across the country are suffering the consequences.

Let's build something new, better, and more responsive to our community together!

We're launching a new series of virtual gatherings to help build the future of local news! Join us on Tuesday, January 28 for our first digital session and share ideas, ask questions, and help co-create new ideas to make our community be more engaged and informed.

It won't be your typical boring zoom call: get ready for an interactive, collaborative experience on Gather!

Space is limited: register at SteinmanInstitute.org

If you could draw a map of how your community gets its news and information, what would it look like? We'll know very soon with your help!

With the launch of Press Forward Central PA, TSI is working to create an open-source hub for the different information sources in our community, including traditional news (newspapers, TV news, etc.) and new, digital platforms (social media accounts, Reddit groups, etc.).

If you are a local news organization, check out our short 10-15 minute survey to be eligible to receive a $1,000 grant to your newsroom!

If you are or know someone who is working in non-traditional spaces that we should know, send us a DM, or email [email protected]!

We are proud to announce that The Steinman Institute has been chosen to lead the launch of Press Forward Central Pennsylvania (PFCPA)! Press Forward is a national movement dedicated to revitalizing local news and information in the wake of an unprecedented decline in reliable local sources and is investing over $500 million to strengthen communities and expand access to local news. The Central Pennsylvania chapter has been selected as one of the 20 first Press Forward chapters across the country and this was made possible thanks to the Steinman Foundation, the founding partner of PFCPA.

We are proud to be part of this exciting and innovative movement to meet the moment for local news. Learn more at PressForwardCentralPa.org!
