Michaela Aponte, a rising second-grader at Fritz Elementary School, and Mikayla Millisock, a recent graduate of Conestoga Valley School District, are both accomplished twirlers and members of Ab-Salute Twirling. Both girls also recently took top honors in their respective age divisions at a regional baton twirling championship in Corning, New York.

"It's definitely a sport," said Rebecca Aponte, Michaela's mom. "I have four daughters in twirling, and I am amazed at what these girls can do. They put their blood, sweat and tears into twirling. I think it takes a lot more skill than people realize. It takes as much dedication as any sport..."

Back in April, Donegal senior Steven Carreras made waves at the United States Powerlifting Association (USPA) Rochester Grand Prix, breaking two national records in the Raw Full Power division for Junior Men ages 16 to 17 in the 67.5-kilogram weight class.

"I was more excited about setting my own personal record and the number I had set for myself," he said. "It was recognition of the work I'd done leading up to it, with all the prep and lifting sessions."
